Indoor Rock Climbing (Urban Climb Blackburn ) - First-time to Advanced

**Urban Climb Blackburn** Never climbed before? No worries at all! You're very welcome here! Just complete a quick safety induction when you arrive and the staff will walk you through everything you need to know to climb safely indoors. It's easy, friendly, and won't take long. The venue has plenty to enjoy, including a bouldering cave, speed wall, sauna facilities, and sparkling water to keep you going. This group is primarily focused on rope climbing, top roping and lead climbing, but if you'd prefer to stick to bouldering while you find your feet, that's absolutely fine too! Many of our members have their lead pass and gear, but there's no pressure at all. **Finding us:** If you arrive on time, look for us gathered around the couches in the bouldering area. We're a friendly bunch, so just come and say hi! Running a little late? No stress, just let the staff up the front know you're with the Climb Meetup group and they'll make an announcement. Someone will come and find you and introduce you around. A few of our regulars also wear a black shirt with the old logo, so keep an eye out for those. **A note on numbers:** The meetup runs every Monday and many regular members come along independently without RSVPing through the group, so the crowd is often bigger than it looks on the attendee list! If you're ever unsure whether people will be there or worried it might be a tiny group, feel free to drop the organisers a message beforehand and we'll put your mind at ease. **Fees:** Entry is paid directly to Urban Climb. You can find current pricing at [urbanclimb.com.au/pricing](https://urbanclimb.com.au/pricing/). If you hold a climbing membership elsewhere, it's worth checking your member benefits as you may be eligible for a discount. For venue info and the first-time waiver, visit [urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn](https://urbanclimb.com.au/locations/blackburn/). **Stay connected:** We also have a facebook group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808](https://www.facebook.com/groups/663576119053808) with a chat function; a great way to connect with members before or after a session!

The human element highlights the sheer, overwhelming scale of the financial district. * **Modernist Frames:** Position yourself near the glass and steel of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) annex. Frame passing locals trapped between layers of sharp, high-contrast architectural reflections and deep window recesses. **11:00 AM – 11:35 AM \| [Nurses Walk](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nurses+Walk,+The+Rocks+NSW+2000/@-33.8598892,151.2082795,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12ae42efae7765:0x64eba1f577e36025!8m2!3d-33.8598892!4d151.2082795!16s%2Fg%2F1tk6w1nk?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDYxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) & [Suez Canal](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Suez+Canal,+The+Rocks+NSW+2000/@-33.8594987,151.2083423,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12ae42e81df571:0x3b81a9d527dcd740!8m2!3d-33.8594987!4d151.2083423!16s%2Fg%2F11f5_6w2f4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDYxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D)** * **Time Allocation:** 35 minutes. * **Environmental Shooting Prompts:** * **The Sandstone Trench:** Stand deep within the pitch-black shadows of [Suez Canal](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Suez+Canal,+The+Rocks+NSW+2000/@-33.8594987,151.2083423,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12ae42e81df571:0x3b81a9d527dcd740!8m2!3d-33.8594987!4d151.2083423!16s%2Fg%2F11f5_6w2f4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDYxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D). Shoot a wide or environmental portrait of a person stepping directly through the narrow "spotlight" of midday sun cutting down into the alley, illuminating them against the dark, gritty heritage brickwork. * **Contextual Silhouettes:** Frame tourists or locals exploring the historic signs and gas lamps of [Nurses Walk](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nurses+Walk,+The+Rocks+NSW+2000/@-33.8598892,151.2082795,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12ae42efae7765:0x64eba1f577e36025!8m2!3d-33.8598892!4d151.2082795!16s%2Fg%2F1tk6w1nk?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDYxMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D), capturing them completely in silhouette against the brightly lit streets at the end of the lanes. **11:35 AM – 12:10 PM \| The Argyle Cut & High Street Bridge** * **Time Allocation:** 35 minutes. * **Environmental Shooting Prompts:** * **The Multi-Level Canvas:** Shoot from the High Street overpass looking straight down at the pavement below. At this hour, people's shadows compress directly under them. Capture subjects moving across the asphalt, treating the road as a clean, minimalist white canvas cut by short, ink-black human shadows. * **The Cavernous Exit:** Stand inside the dark, monumental sandstone cavern of the Argyle Cut. Capture pedestrians walking toward the blindingly bright exit, using the massive chasm walls to frame the human subjects as small elements in a historic landscape. **12:10 PM – 12:30 PM \| Circular Quay Station Underpass** * **Time Allocation:** 20 minutes. * **Environmental Shooting Prompts:** * **The Glowing Commuter:** Stand inside the dark concrete underpass looking out toward the ferry wharves. Capture commuters as they transition from the bright harbor sun into the shade, utilizing the intense midday sun to catch sharp, glowing white rim-light on their hair, shoulders, and profiles. * **Ghostly Crowds:** Use a slower shutter speed to capture the chaotic rush-hour environment. Keep the heavy structural iron columns tack-sharp while the streams of people turn into motion-blurred, ghostly textures moving through the dark transit hub. *** **12:30 PM \| Arrival at The Ship Inn** Walk just one minute around the corner from the underpass to **The Ship Inn** (Pitt St & Alfred St) to pull up a table, grab a cold drink or lunch, and review everyone’s environmental monochrome frames!
