We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability. o So, Pimpama - let's get singing! New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums and daughters/mums and sons/dads and daughters/sets of sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! *** THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - Gold Coast - Pimpama, directed by Rebecca Cassidy, rehearses on Tuesday evenings. We start singing at 7pm but we are set up and ready to go from 6.30pm so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. Rehearsals go through until 9pm. Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more. Your first rehearsal is FREE so you can come along and check us out without obligation. Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. You can pay by the term ($205 standard or $133 concession/under 30s) or on a weekly recurring subscription basis ($18 standard or $12 concession/under 30s). Concession rates apply to students, concession card holders, pensioners etc and under 30s with our #under30perks We will give you a member pack with a lyric book and access to all the resources you need once you've signed up. Then each week you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and don’t forget your glasses! Soul Song Brisbane - Gold Coast - Pimpama rehearses on Tuesdays from 7-9pm at Pimpama School of Arts, 15 Clark Way, Pimpama, QLD. *** We'd love to see you at rehearsal soon! If you want to have a chat before you come along, feel free to sing out - pun intended. Send us a message at enquiries@soulsongchoirs.com.au or call Jaq on 0412 255587. You can also find more info at www.soulsongchoirs.com.au P.S. Don't worry if there are only a couple of people marked as 'going' on the Meetup Event. This isn't the primary way we manage our group, it just helps new people find us. We have an average of around 40 people at most rehearsals so it's a great, safe space to come and check us out! Soul Song Choirs are proud to be a recipient of the MeetUp Community Fund 2024, recognising our commitment to community building.

Wednesday Conder/Gordon walk - off leash ovals and mountain views

Bridget will lead this dog-friendly and people-friendly walk through Conder and Gordon offering long and short options. The walk includes two large off leash ovals, a dog paddling opportunity, pretty mountain and lake views, and a longish stretch following a little creek. It's a flat, easy route of about 5.5 km with paved options along the way - except across some grassy ovals. Expect it to take up to 2 hours to complete with a group. However there is also the option of a shorter version - missing the Point Hut Pond loop if you prefer - totalling about 3 km. The walk starts and ends behind the petrol station at the Lanyon Market Place (the local Conder shopping centre), which has plenty of free parking and a dog-friendly venue for our after-walk coffee addicts. You can see more detail about the walk and a google map of the route on our [website](https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/conder-gordon-walk/). Important info: * You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour; by rsvping 'yes' to this walk you understand and agree to this condition. * All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. * We ask $7.50 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason. * For more information about how we operate our walks, go to our [FAQ page](https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/canberra-walks-guided-walks-faqs/).

There will be food, networking and some surprise swag!Agenda: 6:20 - Intro 6:30 - Talks 8:00 till late - networking & chat (& drinks optional)Speakers and Talks: Talk 1: Olga Mirensky - Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer @ Ping Identity Olga and Her Agent Attended AI Engineer Conference. Lessons Learned What happens when you let an experimental Stand-In Agent run loose against a live conference environment? To follow the fast-paced sessions of an AI Engineer conference, I built an agent while at the conference. The agent monitored talks and distilled what actually mattered to me - filtering for high-value signal and turning it into specs ready to implement or articles I should read. I started with a different platform, but pivoted to an ADK agent deployed to GCP Agent Platform. Identical system prompt, different platform architecture, different LLM - completely different outcomes. This talk is a transparent look at what happens when agentic experiments meet reality, including an architectural runaway bug that burned 1M tokens per minute. We look past the hype and focus on the real engineering rigour required to build purposeful agents, with four key takeaways: * The Purpose Filter: Why does your agent care about this specific talk? If it’s not highly unique, you’re just automating noise. * Architecture > Hype: The gap between what you expect and what actually happens at runtime and why. * The Personalised Flywheel: High-signal distillation requires deep context about you, your team, and where you are in your journey. * Clear Goal Setting: Moving from “autonomous” to “purposeful”. In the replay demo I’ll walk through my flywheel showing how the agent filtered the content in real-time, picked up on tech I am interested in, turned it into an implementable spec, and how AI tools can close the loop to further automate the entire implementation, testing, and release cycle. Talk 2: Sahil Bahadur Devkota - Full Stack Developer Beyond LLMs: why RAG is equally important In this talk, I'll break down how RAG works, why is it really important in real-world and it's popular architectural pattern. We'll look at the core components of a RAG pipeline, discuss it's implementation approach, and cover some of the key things to think about when building an AI applications with RAG. Whether you're working with AI or building application that need accurate responses, you'll leave with a practical understanding of when RAG make sense - and when it doesn't. Talk 3: Abhijeet Kumar - AI & Automation | Cloud enthusiast Beyond RAG: Building an Agentic "Second Brain" with FastAPI, pgvector, and Gemini Move beyond static note-taking apps. This talk explores Project NeuralFortress—a custom, Python-built knowledge management system designed to actively synthesize information. We’ll walk through evolving a basic RAG script into an agentic pipeline using FastAPI for routing, Neon PostgreSQL (pgvector) for vector storage, and Google Gemini for cognitive processing. In Development (Sneak Peek): A brief look at experimental features currently in testing to make the system fully autonomous: GraphRAG: Mapping multi-hop relationships beyond standard vector distance. MCP Integration: Native database queries directly from your code editor. Async Watchers: Autonomous background web scraping and data ingestion. Bharat also gave his first public presentation at a Melbourne AWS User Group event, making this a great example of where taking that first step can lead. A huge thank you to our sponsors: 🥇 Mantel Group – Gold Sponsor, 🥈 Cevo – Silver Sponsor, 🏛 NAB – Venue Sponsor The event will also be live-streamed on YouTube: 👉 [https://melb.awsug.org.au/live](https://melb.awsug.org.au/live) *** 🗓️ **Agenda** 6:00 pm – Food & Socialising 6:30 pm – Introductions 6:40 pm – What’s New in AWS 6:55 pm – Preparing the “What’s New in AWS” Segment (Level 100); Speaker: Matthew Merriel 7:10 pm – RAG to Riches: AI-Powered Market Intelligence on Amazon Bedrock (Level 200); Speaker: Sanjana Kailash 7:25 pm – Intelligent Malware Protection Using AWS GuardDuty (Level 200); Speaker: Bharat Wadhwa 7:55 pm – Marketplace (Who’s Hiring) 8:00 pm – Networking + Close *** 🎤 **Talk Details** **Preparing the “What’s New in AWS” Segment** Speaker: Matthew Merriel Level: 100 Format: Lightning Talk “What’s New in AWS” is a regular part of Melbourne AWS User Group meetups—but how is the segment put together? Matthew will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the process used to find, shortlist, and prepare recent AWS announcements for presentation at the meetup. This session is designed to help volunteers understand what is involved and make it easier for more community members to take on the segment at future events. No previous speaking experience is required. *** **RAG to Riches: AI-Powered Market Intelligence on Amazon Bedrock** Speaker: Sanjana Kailash Level: 200 Format: Lightning Talk What if a strategy team never had to manually scan more than 50 data sources again? In this lightning talk, Sanjana will walk through how she built a fully automated AI-powered market-intelligence pipeline using Amazon Bedrock, retrieval-augmented generation, and AWS-native services. The solution transforms more than five hours of Monday-morning manual research into a polished briefing delivered directly to inboxes—with no manual effort required. This will also be Sanjana’s first public presentation, and we’re excited to welcome another new speaker to the Melbourne AWS community. *** **Intelligent Malware Protection Using AWS GuardDuty** Speaker: Bharat Wadhwa Level: 200 Format: Full Presentation This presentation showcases a cloud-native malware-protection solution for Amazon S3 using Amazon GuardDuty Malware Protection. The solution replaces legacy antivirus approaches with intelligent, event-driven malware detection and automated security workflows.
