We normally set up cones for slalom practice and skaters practice whatever they are keen to learn - normally lots of advice on offer too. This is a social event, so everyone welcome, we don’t leave this area, so no issues if you are not confident yet, we will be close by. We tend to get 200+ skaters most weeks, normally 5-10 new skaters too, so don’t be shy, come and join us. IMPORTANT - this is a casual social event and you participate at your own risk. Protective gear is strongly recommended, if you dont have protective gear and want to come along, maybe ask in the group, we do have spares. Photos and videos maybe taken at the event, and shared in the closed group. Please let us know beforehand if you want to be excluded, your privacy will be respected.

FREE: Walk the Kangaroo Point - Green Bridges - City loop

Join us for a walk around the Kangaroo Point - Green Bridge loop. We'll meet outside Joey's Cafe. We walk across the top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs, along the Southbank waterfront, across the Neville Bonner Bridge through old city Botanical Gardens, about 5 city blocks, then back over the new Kangaroo Point Green Bridge, along Main Street to The Pineapple Hotel. The Walk is about 7kms and takes about 80 to 90 minutes. Meet at 5:55pm (or earlier) for 6:00pm Start. Walk at your own pace as we stop at a number of catch up points along the way so you won't get left behind. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but the dinner venue is not. Relax... Even if it your first time, we aim to make all feel welcome and it's a good idea to turn up a little early. Optionally... After the walk, we stop at the Pineapple Hotel for dinner and / or a drink, a great way to socialise in a group setting. The conversation is more dynamic in the group setting, so if your a bit shy you can enjoy being a listener, if there's a topic your passionate about, you can jump right in on it. The menu can be found here: https://pineapplehotel.com.au/garden-bar/ There is free parking from 5pm near Joey's Cafe, the Pineapple Hotel and the streets between. Plan on arriving a little early (10-15 minutes) we can have a chat and you have a buffer if traffic is poor. We do leave on time and once started I don't get a chance to check for messages as it is unsafe do while walking. If there is mild rain I'll do the walk, but, if it is pouring down or well set in, I'll just do dinner. Remember we are all adults so... I thank you as my guests that you bring your manners and be respectful! Please keep your RSVP up to date. It is seen by Meetup and your host as a sign of disrespect of you are a 'No Show' thank you. PLEASE NOTE This is NOT a formal organisation and has no public liability insurance. We are a group of people who get together, taking full personal responsibility at all times. By attending an activity, you agree automatically to take full responsibility for yourself.

It takes only a few seconds to do the right thing. Parking is limited, but there's heaps of space across the road in the Stones Corner library carpark/Busway station - **access from Gladys Street**. After trivia, we return together to the carpark for everyone's safety. **Join us from 6.30pm, the trivia starts at 7pm.** So come along, get a $25 Parmy, pizzas, other lovely meals or just a drink and let's give it a go! A gold coin donation to help with Meetup organiser fees is welcome. If you have to contact me, please call/text 0412 733 671 rather than add lots of comments in the Comments section. Thanks! Cheers, Reeny.

Eating Food and Telling Stories: Malaysia

A small dinner with strangers, stories, and delicious Malaysian food. Food has so much to tell - every dish carries memories. Enjoying the taste is great, but food becomes even more enjoyable when we know the story behind it. This event is not a lecture or a food tour; it is a dinner where we’ll eat together and talk about why we eat what we eat: how dishes travel, how flavours create memories, and how food becomes part of identity. I’ll guide the evening by choosing the dishes and sharing short stories about Malaysian food, ingredients, history, and culture, but the best version of the night is a conversation. Everyone is invited to taste, react, ask questions, and add their own perspective. It will be fun - we might debate the long-running Malaysia-Singapore nasi lemak rivalry, explore how laksa reflects centuries of migration, or look at how trade and colonial politics transformed flavours that many people now think of as traditional. You do not need to know anything about Malaysian food. You might be trying it for the first time, or you might have grown up eating it. Either way, the point is the same: to enjoy great food with good company and discover the stories behind the dishes. Coming alone is very welcome. Coming hungry for food and stories is even better. * Group size: 4-6 people * Duration: Around 1-1.5 hours * Cost: Free to attend; everyone pays for their own food and drinks, likely around $30–35 per person * The exact venue and dishes will be shared several days before the event. We'll be sharing a selection of dishes as a group, which is central to the experience. Because of that, this event may not be suitable for people with dietary restrictions

Singing in Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Hunter Region and Online since 2010, we are all-inclusive community choirs and we’re on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to make a joyful noise together. We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability. o So, Pimpama - let's get singing! New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums and daughters/mums and sons/dads and daughters/sets of sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! *** THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - Gold Coast - Pimpama, directed by Rebecca Cassidy, rehearses on Tuesday evenings. We start singing at 7pm but we are set up and ready to go from 6.30pm so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. Rehearsals go through until 9pm. Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more. Your first rehearsal is FREE so you can come along and check us out without obligation. Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. You can pay by the term ($205 standard or $133 concession/under 30s) or on a weekly recurring subscription basis ($18 standard or $12 concession/under 30s). Concession rates apply to students, concession card holders, pensioners etc and under 30s with our #under30perks We will give you a member pack with a lyric book and access to all the resources you need once you've signed up. Then each week you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and don’t forget your glasses! Soul Song Brisbane - Gold Coast - Pimpama rehearses on Tuesdays from 7-9pm at Pimpama School of Arts, 15 Clark Way, Pimpama, QLD. *** We'd love to see you at rehearsal soon! If you want to have a chat before you come along, feel free to sing out - pun intended. Send us a message at enquiries@soulsongchoirs.com.au or call Jaq on 0412 255587. You can also find more info at www.soulsongchoirs.com.au P.S. Don't worry if there are only a couple of people marked as 'going' on the Meetup Event. This isn't the primary way we manage our group, it just helps new people find us. We have an average of around 40 people at most rehearsals so it's a great, safe space to come and check us out! Soul Song Choirs are proud to be a recipient of the MeetUp Community Fund 2024, recognising our commitment to community building.

Tricky Tuesday @ The Peacock Inn

Welcome to the **Tricky Tuesday** Meet Up! This is a smaller event in most respects - smaller capacity, smaller games - but still the same sized fun! Come join us to learn a new game and meet some new people. * This event was created primarily to play and explore **modern** **trick taking games** and **smaller card games** which can be played on more limited table space. * As this is a smaller event, please note it is a bit more casual. Find the group at the table/s, come over and join - we're a welcoming bunch. * Please **bring some games** to this event if you can and be prepared to teach them if you do. **There are** **no games available at the venue** but I will always bring a few. Please consider others when coming and in the lead up to the event. We want as many people there as possible. If you are unable to attend mark yourself as such as soon as you can so others can be notified and attend. There's an FAQ below but if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out. Your tricky friend, Dave **FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS** **What is a trick taking game? Good question you handsome person.** * Generally speaking, a trick taking game is a card game which is played in a series of rounds known as ***tricks***. * Each trick is evaluated to determine a winner or ***taker*** of that trick and then will usually start - or ***lead*** *-* the next trick. * The goal is usually tied to either winning or losing a number of tricks. This may also come in the form of you guessing how many tricks you will win - known as a ***bid***. * Some games may have a suit that always wins - known as a ***trump***. * Most trick taking games are **competitive** needing between 3-5 players, others are **cooperative**, there are also solo and two-player trick taking games as well! * Popular trick taking/trick taking adjacent games you may have heard of: [The Crew](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/324856/the-crew-mission-deep-sea), [Skull King](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/150145/skull-king), [Cat in the Box](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/345972/cat-in-the-box-deluxe-edition), [Scout](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/291453/scout), [Fox in the Forest](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/221965/the-fox-in-the-forest), the classic games of [Spades](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/592/spades) and [Hearts](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/6887/hearts), **What makes a Trick Taking game fun?** * There's so much to trick taking games! They're generally quick to teach, quick to play, have interesting decision spaces, and a wide variety of novelty. Even the classics though can be played thousands of times without getting tiresome. Part of the fun is in the interaction with others, assessing their moves and countering them, and how to win (or lose) at the right times. You have to stay on your toes, adapt frequently, and keep tabs on the other players, what they have played, and what they may play next! **Do I need to know how to play/have played a trick taking game before?** * Not at all, but it is good to understand the basics and general terminology so you can pick things up a bit easier on the night. You can check out [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O7QyhKmCsk) for a bit of a general breakdown . **Is this event free?** * Yes, but please support the venue by purchasing a drink or two. **I'm on the waitlist can I still come?** * Unfortunately, no. We have limited capacity and must abide by it. **I don't have a game to bring, is that okay?** * Generally it will be okay, but it is encouraged to bring and share a game where you can! You can always bring a standard deck of cards or tarot cards and learn a card game or two as well! **Can I bring a guest?** * Unfortunately, unless they have signed up too it won't be possible. We have a strict limit on guests and the event would fill up too quickly otherwise. **How do I get to the venue?** * The 86 Tram is your best bet and has a stop pretty much right outside of the venue. * There are two train stations (Westgarth and Northcote) which are within walking distance. * Parking is available in the area but can get busy. If you don't mind a little walk there is parking down the adjacent street. **Dave, I worry you will win all the games we play. Such an intelligent and beautiful man, you must be a master of the tricks, is this true?** * Firstly - thank-you for the kind words, but secondly - no. I suck at trick taking games and lose more than I win. Yet, I enjoy them for their variety, high interaction, and quick nature regardless. You will be fine if you don't take things too seriously. It's about fun and meeting people... (but if you do beat me too often I will ban you from the group and venue...).
