Capital City Trail Walk – 5 km, 10 km, or the Full Loop

Join us for a big, social day out walking the full Capital City Trail loop around inner Melbourne. We'll follow the trail at an easy, social pace, taking in the Yarra River, Merri Creek, Royal Park, and the Docklands waterfront along the way. The full AllTrails route is about 30 km as a loop, listed as moderately challenging, but it's mostly flat so it's more about stamina than fitness. Because it's a loop that weaves through the inner suburbs, the route stays close to trains and trams, so we can keep the plan nice and flexible. You can choose what suits you: * **Shorter option:** walk part of the loop and hop off early after a comfortable distance. Trains and trams are never far away. * **Full option:** complete the whole loop with the group back towards the start. This is a casual walk, not a fitness challenge. We'll keep an easy social pace, take breaks, and you're welcome to peel off early whenever you've had enough kilometres. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/JkFZ9YEgks9ibFms5](https://maps.app.goo.gl/JkFZ9YEgks9ibFms5) AllTrails route link: [https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/australia/victoria/capital-city-trail](https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/australia/victoria/capital-city-trail) **Rough timeline** * 9:00am – Meet outside Transport Hotel entrance and say hi * 9:15am – Start walking * 12:30–1:30pm – Lunch break * Around 5:00pm – Finish walking, with optional coffee afterwards **Hop-off points (for the shorter option)** If you'd like to peel off early, here are handy exit points along the way with the nearest public transport (distances are approximate, measured from the start): * \~10 km – Skipping Girl sign, Abbotsford → Burnley St/Victoria St (Tram 109) * \~15 km – Melbourne Polytechnic, Fairfield → Heidelberg Rd bus stop (approx. 11 min walk) * \~20 km – Poplar Oval → Royal Park Station (Upfield line) * \~25 km – Woolworths, The District Docklands → D10 NewQuay Prom/Docklands Dr (Trams 35, 70 & 86) **What to bring** * Comfortable walking shoes * Warm/weatherproof layer * Water * Snacks * Sunscreen **What to expect** * Distance: About 30 km for the full loop * Difficulty: Moderate according to AllTrails, but mostly flat, straightforward path walking * Pace: Slow, easy, and social * Vibe: Relaxed, low-pressure, and welcoming to solo attendees **Important notes** * You can do a shorter section and hop off early after as many kilometres as you like — the loop stays close to public transport. * It's a long day, so bring enough water, food, and sun protection. * The walk is weather-dependent, so please check the forecast and dress accordingly. * We'll aim to stay together, but the route is well-marked and flexible. * Optional coffee at the finish will depend on the group on the day.

And let’s empty out his trailer and put a kitchen in it. We’ll add picnic tables, umbrellas, live music and open a beach bar called Cook at Kurnell.”* Who knows if that's true. But **Cook at Kurnell** is exactly that kind of joint… **I’ve been to the bar – love it. I’ve done an hour hike to Kurnell – love it. And I love the Tozzi family who owns it.** **So? Grab my arm, and join me.** **[JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/FZiGipXk9kY5mqLh49wGa2)**[.](https://chat.whatsapp.com/C2OLdpsxYQo3Y88VDZlUvI) Team, please stop here. Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'Mad Mabel' by Sally Hepworth

We'll meet at the spot where Fed Square meets the Princes Bridge over the Yarra (near the pedestrian crossing closest to the river from Flinders St, on the Fed Square side). We'll walk for about 6km along the Yarra River, through the Botanic Gardens and back along the river to Federation Square for a coffee after the walk. This month, we're reading and talking about 'Mad Mabel' by Sally Hepworth The blurb: "In 1959, at just fifteen years of age, Mabel Waller became the youngest Australian in history to be convicted of murder. In 2025, on a quiet Melbourne lane, an elderly man is found dead by his neighbour, 81-year-old Elsie Fitzpatrick. No one suspects any foul play. Until they discover Elsie's past. In the 1950s, her name was not Elsie. It was Mabel. She is known around the world as Mad Mabel. But is she mad? More importantly, is she guilty? When the police open a new investigation and the media descend upon her, the elderly Mabel decides it's time to set the record straight. In a world first, at the age of 81, Mabel Waller is speaking. New York Times bestselling author Sally Hepworth is at her finest in this twisty, compulsive thriller of friendship, family and murder. Or is it justice . . . ?" Goodreads rating: 4.40 How does a walking bookclub work? Like a normal bookclub, we talk about the book, what else we're reading, have read, or want to read (as well as a few tangents into life outside literature!) but we do it while walking around Melbourne and then over a coffee. We often split into smaller groups as we walk, but we also regroup through the walk. Should I read the book beforehand? The conversation will be more interesting if you do, but you can still come along if you haven't finished it yet! Do I need to bring anything? **Comfy** walking shoes, drinking water, some money for coffee or a bite to eat after if you wish. No need to bring the book unless you want to. No shows No shows (RSVPing yes and not attending) mean the group waits unnecessarily for those who are not coming, thinking you are running a little late. It’s absolutely fine to change your rsvp for any reason up until the walk begins, and you don’t need to leave a comment, send a message or give a reason, but if you don't click that 'change rsvp' button, you may be removed from the group. Membership Fee Did you know that while it is free to attend most events, Meetup charges organisers about $600 a year to organise a group? Members of the Walking Book Club are asked to pay a membership fee of $10 per year (not per event) to help cover this cost. When you join the group, you'll be automatically given a three month trial so you can see what the group is like, without needing to make any payment. If you would like to continue attending events after this, please follow Meetup's instructions to pay the $6.50US/approx $10AUD fee once per year (or contact group organisers if you would prefer to make payment using paypal, payID, cash or bank transfer).

Short Sunday stroll in Mt Rogers Reserve - off leash tracks, city views

A Sunday stroll in Mt Rogers Reserve! Join Jenny on this lovely northside walk featuring lots of relaxed off leash time for our dogs in a contained, bush-like reserve, with some nice city views for us humans too. The walk is approximately 3 km along well-formed dirt tracks with some gentle undulations, looping around the base of Mt Rogers. It will take approximately 60 minutes with a group. Our route enters off leash space pretty much straight away, but we will manage how and when each dog starts their off leash time depending on the mix of dogs on the day. The walk starts and ends at the Mt Rogers Reserve carpark at the end of Wickens Place in Fraser. There is plenty of free parking here. The excellent [Fraser Café](https://fraser-cafe.com.au) is very short drive away for pre or post walk coffees and meals, as well as access to toilets. Important info: * You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour; by rsvping 'yes' to this walk you understand and agree to this condition. * All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. * We ask $7.50 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason. * For more information about how we operate our walks, go to our [FAQ page](https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/canberra-walks-guided-walks-faqs/).

JUGGER - soft-combat foam weapons, free to try!

It's Jugger time! Get on down to Hawthorn for fun, sun, exercise, and silly shenanigans! * ✅ Free to attend * ⚔️ Jugger Equipment is supplied * 🍜 Post-training social lunch - all welcome * ➡️ [Find us on Discord](https://discord.gg/WHnMyk56Cu) Jugger is an exciting, mixed-gender soft combat sport. Two teams use a selection of padded foam spars to tag opponents as they aim to put the jugg (the game ball) into their opponent's goal. **Watch Jugger being played in [this excellent short demo video](https://vimeo.com/28592980).** Jugger Melbourne training sessions include both full games of jugger, as well as a variety of training drills designed to promote **teamwork, communication, exercise, health and fitness, and teach core game skills.** After training we head across to Glenferrie Rd for lunch and socializing, which you are welcome (and encouraged!) to join. **‍🏃‍♀️‍➡️ New Player Info / Who Can Join** New players are always welcome! Our experienced coaches will teach you basics to get you and and swinging in no time Jugger is easy to pickup the basics while deep to master. We have a minimum age policy of 16 years (please note, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian), but other than that we welcome anyone of all fitness levels. Jugger is a great way to keep active, and a fun way to meet new people in a friendly and inclusive community! **👟 How to Join a Session and What to Bring** Joining is simple - just show up! RSVPing on Meetup or Discord is a big help as it helps us plan around expected numbers. You are also welcome to bring along any interested friends and family. **⚔️ Jugger equipment is supplied.** We have a collection of gear to loan out to new players. Bring a water bottle (there is a tap nearby), sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes for running around in - and that you don't mind getting a bit dirty! Recommend but not required items include: sunglasses, football boots, kneepads, and gloves if you have them. You don't need any of these to get started, but you may find you want them if you become a regular. **✅ Are there any costs are involved?** Our training sessions are **free to attend** as often as you like, we are essentially just a group of friends that meet for training and socializing on the weekend. The Australian Jugger League has a voluntary annual membership that helps to support the sport (including maintaining equipment and paying for Meetup), and we encourage people to join once they become a regular attendee or begin attending tournaments. However there's no obligation so spend any money when you're first trying it out or just attending casually. **➡️ External Links** We organise our regular players through our Discord group and their attendance is not often represented in the Meetup attendance numbers (we use Meetup to reach out to new people). Events are also (though less regularly) posted to Facebook, while event photos and videos are shared on our Instagram. * [Join our Discord](https://discord.gg/WHnMyk56Cu) * [Jugger Melbourne on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/JuggerMelbourne) * [Follow us on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/jugger_melbourne/) * [Australian Jugger League website](https://www.jugger.au/) \*\* See you on Sunday \*\*

Magic Mind & Peak Consciousness: Cultivating Psychic Abilities - Dr. Alex de Foe

**What if psychical abilities (psi) can be cultivated in earlier life?** What are the implications for modern society and our perception of the world? A new theory based on entropy and perception may hold the answers... After 70+ years of controlled studies into psychical phenomena, scholars still lack a cohesive theory of what makes them possible.... **In this presentation, Dr Alex De Foe** draws on his 15+ years of research to model psi as an emergent lifespan experience - understanding it in relation to neural development and entropy, experiences often reported by children. Drawing upon the "free energy model" in perception and social neuroscience, Alex will make the case for cultivation of psi in pivotal states of consciousness. Part 2 will focus on experiential analysis to support the argument, including case studies and a short practice task called 'Image Streaming' that engages aspects of the mind at the periphery of experience. **Image Streaming** is a technique that bridges the divide between the conscious, unconscious, and super-conscious mind, related to Michael Thalbourne's concept of 'transliminality', in which material flows between these dimensions of mind seamlessly. **Case studies will be presented from:** * Research into out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and lucid dreams * A new theory on archetypes and the collective unconscious * Speculative accounts at the bridge between spiritual emergence and spiritual 'emergency' **About Dr. Alexander De Foe (PhD, M Couns):** * Academic at Monash University (2021-2026). * Runs a research program on mindfulness/consciousness * At RMIT University (2016-2021), he managed a virtual reality lab focusing on embodied cognition and social neuroscience. * Published over 30 peer-reviewed studies/papers on consciousness, perception, and general psychology. * Chair of the Australian Centre for Consciousness Studies * Committee Member of the Australian Institute of Parapsychological Research * Associate Editor at the Anthropology of Consciousness Journal. **Post-Event Social Lunch Hangout (12.45 - 1.45pm)** NOTE: TRYING OUT NEW LUNCH VENUE... Afterwards, you are invited to lunch with everyone at **Gopal's Restaurant** (5min walk from the venue) **PLEASE NOTE:** * **11AM Start -** Please be considerate and arrive early. * **$10 Cover Charge:** Room hire, facilities, and running costs.

Community Assembly - AI & Data Centres

Artificial intelligence and data centres are reshaping how we live, work, and use energy. Right now, the Federal Government is asking for input to influence how this important technology shapes our future. This is a real opportunity for community voices to reach the people making decisions about our collective future. The problem is that formal consultation processes can feel inaccessible; full of technical jargon, unclear on process, and easy to scroll past. That's exactly why we're running this community assembly. Rather than feeling overwhelmed or just venting into the void, come and do something about it. This is a free, volunteer-run, in-person session designed to give you: * Context — a plain-English overview of the inquiry and what's at stake for our communities, environment, and economy * Space — a safe, welcoming environment for open discussion, whatever your background or level of expertise * Support — practical guidance to help you formulate and submit your own perspective directly to the inquiry.
No technical expertise required. Just curiosity and a willingness to have your say. We believe that diverse perspectives lead to richer outcomes, and on something as consequential as AI and data centres, we need as many of them as possible! Come and help shape a future we can all look forward to. Register here for a free ticket: https://events.humanitix.com/community-assembly-ai-and-data-centres

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

The winter solstice marks a threshold moment. Cultures have gathered for eons to recognise cosmic events, not because we are promised some radical transformation, but because shared ritual cultivates fertile ground for a meaningful life through reflection, connection and growth. Rituals help us digest change, build resilience, and experience and express that which may not be so accessible in our day-to-day lives. This winter solstice day retreat is an opportunity to pause, reflect and explore what it means to loosen your grip, release a little clinging and grasping to open to a quality of presence with a little less of the magnetism of attachment. The longest night calls for an acknowledgement of darkness. Through recognition and ritual, we will embrace the darkness as part of the natural cycle of life, welcoming the perspectives it offers before orienting ourselves towards the illumination of the renewing sun. Through Asana, Kriya, Japa mantra and meditation, we will spiral inwards, using practices to encourage self-inquiry, release and mark transitions to more fully experience our own lives. **What to Expect** Cultivate tapas through asana. Cleanse and release with kriya. Reflect and integrate through journaling. Explore the potency of japa mantra. Soften and renew with meditation. Warming, nourishing vegan food, and time to connect and rest. **What to Bring** Bring a journal and pen. Come dressed in comfortable, layered clothing suited to movement and stillness. Mats, cushions and blankets are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own. *Cautions* If you are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have any other significant medical condition, please be in touch with Jessie before you book - 0477 166 867 [BOOK HERE](https://momence.com/l/R5hJnoAd)

Hi all, us at NeuroSparks are having another fortnightly meeting and we'd love to see you there! When: Sunday 21st of June from 12:30-3:30PM. Where: we will be meeting at the Majorca Room at the City Library. Access to the room is via a lift or steps in the foyer. The City Library is located at 253 Flinders Lane, right next to Flinders Street/Town Hall Station. This social gathering will be for those looking to connect with others in the community. It'll be a very casual setting, where everyone can be themselves and can and go when they feel like it. There will be limited structure, as this event is intended to be like the casual free form mingling of our picnic events. For anyone wanting to continue socialising after the room booking ends, we encourage you to get out and hit the town together! People are welcome to bring food/drinks to the event. Conveniently for us, there is a cafe on the library's ground floor and there are many cafes also nearby! But for the sake of continuing to use the venue, please tidy up after yourself. This event is open to all neurodivergent people and anyone who values a friendly, inclusive space. Many attendees come on their own, so if you’re feeling a bit hesitant, know you’ll be in good company and warmly welcomed. If the group/noise feels too overwhelming at any point, there is a silent study room next door to decompress in. If you struggling to interact with the group, just let one of friendly organisers know and we will be able to help you out! If at any point you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about any group member, please notify one of the organisers. For the purposes of not overwhelming attendees, we will be capping RSVPs at 50 people maximum. If you have RSVP’d and can no longer attend, please cancel your booking, to allow others to attend. If you sign up for the waitlist and Meetup prompts you to pay, please ignore this, as this event is not intended to be paid for. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!
