Between Worlds; Exploring Shamanic Consciousness in Contemporary Australia

When people think of shamanic journeying, psychedelics are often the first association. Yet in most traditions, altered states of consciousness are more commonly entered through other methods. These practices shift awareness away from linear and rational thinking into symbolic and imaginal ways of experiencing the world. A central focus of this talk is the role of mythology and symbolism as a map and compass for navigating these inner states. Mythology is not treated as abstract story or merely superstition, but as a living framework that helps organise experience, guide inner journeys, and support processes of healing and transformation. Archetypes, symbols, and mythic narratives form a structured language for making sense of what is encountered in altered states, both for individuals and communities. The talk also explores how these traditional mythological maps overlap with modern psychology. Contemporary approaches to the mind increasingly recognise symbolic processes, layered identity, trauma patterns, and the need for integration - areas long addressed within myth-based systems of understanding. We will look at how altered states are safely accessed and navigated, and how myth and symbolism provides orientation within them. Finally, the talk considers the relevance of these approaches in the modern world, particularly in contemporary Australia - offering ways of engaging meaning, psychological insight, and connection to self, others, and place through direct experience. **Guy** is a traditionally trained and initiated sangoma. A sangoma is a traditional healer of Southern Africa, effectively a shaman of the Zulu and related Nguni cultures. Born and raised in South Africa, he is one of only a handful of westerners that have undergone the long and intense ordeal of thwasa (the formal traditional training and initiation process) in order to become initiated into the traditions of the Southern African traditional healers. Guy is also a Ceremonial Leader and initiated shaman in the Spirit of the Earth Medicine Society (SOTEMS), a non-profit Australian organisation which is dedicated to developing new forms of Australian Spirituality and healing based on traditional healing (shamanic) methods for contemporary Australians. **The MTS is committed to providing events that align with and further The three objects of The Theosophical Society:** * To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour. * To encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science. * To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in the human being. Stoicism - Courage | Temperance | Wisdom | Justice

This meeting is a space for those who are curious about Stoic philosophy and want to study, analyze, and apply its teachings to daily life. We engage with Stoic texts, discuss their relevance in the modern world, and explore how to embody Stoic virtues such as wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. We encourage critical thinking within the framework of Stoicism, where we ask questions to explore, refine, and deepen our understanding of Stoic principles. Format: Every week, we analyse three Stoic quotes, give our perspectives, and discuss them as a group. A core principle of the group is that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate and contribute to discussions (however, attendees are welcome to listen and speak only if they feel comfortable). Facilitators actively encourage balanced participation and foster an atmosphere of active listening and respect. 1. **The Dichotomy Of Control** \- Things that are within my control: my thoughts and actions\. Things that are outside of my control: everything else\. Having a clear set of goals sets me on a journey; from which I am detached from all outcomes 2. **Live According To Nature** \- It is in my nature to behave virtuously\. The fundamentals of which are: a) *Courage* \- face my fears b) *Temperance* \- restrain from excess c) *Wisdom* \- respond rationally d) *Justice* \- act responsibly 3. **The Obstacle Is The Way** \- The obstacles in my life are blessings in that overcoming them strengthens my mind\. 4. **Sympatheia** \- Be an objective thinker by understanding that we have a mutual interdependence on the whole of humanity\. 5. **Memento Mori** \- Meditate on my mortality and live in the present\. 6. **Premeditatio Malorum** \- The only certainty in life is that nothing is certain\. I should prepare myself mentally for any disruptions that may occur\. Rehearse these in my mind: exile\, torture\, war\, shipwreck\. 7. **Amor Fati** \- First\, to accept fate\, then to love it\. 8. **Reflect (journal)** \- Reflect on the day by exploring why I felt and acted the way I did "The reason why we have two ears and only one mouth is so we might listen more and talk less." - Zeno of Citium Let's create a community of people who inspire, motivate, and support each other to become more responsible and rational adults.

The Blue Trail

Interim Film Buff feature as part of the Spanish Film Festival and I suspect, unmissable! [https://lunapalace.com.au/films/spa26-the-blue-trail](https://lunapalace.com.au/films/spa26-the-blue-trail) O Último Azul *The best-reviewed film of the 2025 Berlinale*, Gabriel Mascaro’s The Blue Trail is a breathtaking cinematic odyssey that follows the misadventures of a remarkable Brazilian woman who, as her working life draws to an end, secretly sets out on a trip down the Amazon to fulfil a long-held dream. In the near future, independent 77-year-old Tereza (the astonishing Denise Weinberg) has lived her whole life in a small, industrialised town, working at a local factory. One day she receives an official government order, forcing relocation to an isolated housing colony where people are brought to ‘enjoy’ their lives in comfort. But Tereza wasn’t expecting the directive yet. Refusing to accept the order, Tereza impulsively decides to embark on a journey down the rivers and tributaries of the Amazon… one that will change her destiny forever. Vividly showcasing both the natural beauty and corruption of the Amazon, this is an enchanting celebration of vitality, resilience and defiance that will make hearts and spirits soar. Founding Beta: Midlife Relationship Clarity Program — Free 4-Week Pilot

Feeling torn about staying in or leaving your long-term relationship? This free founding beta is for adults aged 40+ who want a calm, structured way to think through a difficult relationship decision with more clarity and less mental looping. This program is **counsellor-designed** and evidence-informed. It draws on decision psychology, reflective counselling methods, and practical tools that help people slow down, sort through competing thoughts and feelings, and identify a clearer next step. It is educational in nature and focused on structured reflection and values-based decision making, rather than therapy or guaranteed outcomes. The beta is being offered free to a small group in exchange for honest feedback. Participants will get program materials, support through email during the beta, and a brief feedback form at the end to shape the next version; feedback may be used with consent. **What’s included** * Free access to the Midlife Relationship Clarity beta for 4 weeks. * Short self‑paced lessons with guided reflection exercises. * Optional email support to help apply the framework. * The opportunity to shape a counsellor‑designed program through your feedback. **Who this is for** * Adults aged 40+. * People feeling stuck, torn, or mentally exhausted by a relationship decision. * People who are open to reflection, journalling, and guided exercises. * People who can commit around 2 hours per week for 4 weeks. * People willing to give thoughtful feedback at the end. **Who this is not for** * Anyone needing urgent crisis, legal, or safety support. * Anyone looking for private therapy through Meetup. If your situation involves immediate risk, domestic violence, or acute distress, please seek appropriate crisis or specialist support instead of joining this beta. **Why this program may be helpful** Many people do not need more opinions. They need a calmer structure for thinking. This beta is designed to help participants: * reduce overthinking, * clarify what matters most, * notice common decision traps, * prepare for honest conversations, * and identify one meaningful next step. Because this is an early cohort, the experience will include personal email support alongside the self‑paced materials. **Beta commitment** This is free, but it is not casual. To keep the group valuable and manageable, places are limited. Participants are asked to: * work through the weekly material, * complete a short end-of-program feedback form, * and reply honestly to a few check-in questions during the beta. **Application question** When you RSVP, please answer this question: What single relationship decision are you weighing, and can you commit \~2 hours per week for 4 weeks? (Yes / No) If this sounds like the kind of structured support you’ve been looking for, RSVP and answer the application question. Selected participants will receive the full details by email.

MARY POPPINS FESTIVAL - PRACTICALLY PERFECT W'END AWAY🌂

🌂🎩 **RSVP EXTENDED TO 14 JUNE 2026! *Own Room and Twin Share option still available - message me asap to secure your spot!*** ***Three Days, one Magical Mary Poppins Festival, a wander through Cooroy's Maple Street and a delicious Kenilworth pit stop on the way home!*** ***With a spoonful of sugar and a dash of magic, the streets of Maryborough come alive with the world of Mary Poppins!*** Every year, the beautiful heritage city of Maryborough does something truly special — it transforms itself into the living, breathing world of P.L. Travers, the remarkable Australian woman who gave the world its most beloved nanny. Mary Poppins story characters spill out onto the streets, roving entertainment fills the air, and around every corner there's something that'll grab a smile, a laugh, or a stop-and-stare moment. Costumes are all part of the fun, so if you feel like pulling a carpet bag out and dressing the part... absolutely go for it, and you'll be part of Maryborough's official World Record attempt for the most people dressed in Mary Poppins themed costumes! A history in the making! 🎉🌂 We're staying two nights so we can enjoy the festival day from start to finish with so much fun happening around us! 🌂 Our first must-do is the Story Bank - this magnificently restored heritage building is the actual birthplace of P.L. Travers herself, and stepping inside feels like stepping into the story. From there we'll find ourselves cheering on the famous Nanny Race - prams flying, nannies racing, the crowd going wild - before watching sooty competitors go head to head in the Chimney Sweep Challenge! The Costume Competition is one not to miss - whether we've come dressed for the occasion or are perfectly happy watching the fabulous entries go by, there'll be plenty of laughs either way! And keep an eye out for Mary Poppins herself, Bert the chimney sweep, the booming Admiral Boom, Uncle Albert and Mrs Banks wandering the streets and mingling with us throughout the day - we'll never quite know who'll pop up around the next corner. The afternoon builds to the Grand Parade - colour, characters and costumes all rolling through the heritage streets of Maryborough - where those of us in costume can jump right in, while the rest of us cheer from the sidelines. 🌂 And of course, through all of it - the laughs, the characters, the parade, the unexpected moments - we'll have the best possible company to share it with. Good friends, fun conversations, and plenty of photo snaps along the way! 😊🌂 HIGHLIGHTS AND INCLUSIONS ✔ Everything described above - the festival day, Story Bank tour, Nanny Race, Chimney Sweep Challenge, Costume Competition, Australian Book of Records attempt and Grand Parade 🌂 ✔ Be part of Maryborough's official World Record attempt - the largest gathering of people dressed as Mary Poppins themed characters! 🎉 ✔ 2 nights accommodation in a lovely 4-star motel within walking distance to all the Mary Poppins action ✔ Saturday dinner - included, at the onsite restaurant at accommodation. ✔ Sunday breakfast - included, at the on-site café at our accommodation ✔ Sunday festival lunch - I'll supply bread and fillings so we can picnic and keep the fun going! 🥪 ✔ You don't drive - enjoy the ride in our comfy Hiace commuter ✔ Lockable weatherproof luggage trailer ✔ Fuel and toll costs ✔ On-board nibbles and drinks for sharing ✔ Meet spot options - Eagleby, Beenleigh Station, Nudgee Station, McDonalds North Lakes or BP Chevallum ✔ Saturday - browse Cooroy's charming Maple Street strip including the Butter Factory, op shops and boutique fashion ✔ Saturday afternoon - Yengari Gallery & Garden, a beautiful property showcasing paintings, sculptures and woodwork by renowned artists Suzanne Bushell and Robin Shepperson ✔ Monday - we return to Brisbane via Kenilworth's famous bakery and Kenilworth Dairy - a lovely way to end the weekend! ✔ Time permitting, visit Artspace at Gatakers ✔ Pre event messages will be shared with all attendees closer to the date - covering who is meeting where, what to bring, and all the finer details of our fun Mary Poppins weekend. 🌂 ✔ If you haven't travelled with us before, know that it's rare we drive more than 1.5 hours at a stretch without either a town visit or a short refresher stop along the way! 😊 WHAT'S AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE \ ~All meals - own cost except those listed as ✔ included above \~ Members using the off-street parking option at Eagleby $20 on the day. \ ~All beverages - own cost throughout the trip \~ All personal purchases, shopping and souvenirs 🧊 We'll have soft medium eskis with ice packs on board for anyone who'd like to keep personal breakfast items cool while travelling \~AVAILABILITY SCHEDULE \~ 4 Star Motel Twin Share Motel Room - own bed 1a. 555 NATALIE R 2a 555 Share Motel Room - own bed 3b. 555 4b. 555 Own Motel Room 5\. 715 LINDA 6\. 715 CYNTHIA 7\. 715 8\. 715 9\. $715 10\. The Inner Oracle; Cultivating your Intuition

We all possess intuition, the quiet inner knowing that guides us through life. Yet for many of us, this innate ability remains underdeveloped or overlooked. \*The Inner Oracle\* is an engaging and experiential presentation designed to help you reconnect with your intuitive wisdom in a supportive and welcoming environment. Together, we will explore the concept of intuition, including an introduction to the various “clairs” or intuitive senses, such as clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance. Through guided meditation, participants will have the opportunity to quiet the mind, deepen self-awareness, and connect with their own intuitive insights. Interactive activities and practical exercises will provide a fun and encouraging space to practise trusting and strengthening your intuition. This event is suitable for all experience levels—from the simply curious to those already working with intuitive practices. No prior knowledge is required, only an open mind and a willingness to explore. **Jasmine Elizabeth King** is a Lecturer, Supervisor, and Clinic Lead at Torrens University, where she teaches naturopathy, western herbal medicine, and nutrition. Inspired by her passion for integrating intuition alongside evidence-based health science education, Jasmine developed this workshop to support students and practitioners. It quickly became clear that cultivating intuition is a skill that can benefit everyone, making this workshop accessible, practical, and enjoyable for all. Voices from across generations and traditions invite us to witness the enduring scars of colonization on lands and peoples, and the healing pathways carried through ancestral wisdom. Entrusted with medicine stories, the film grapples with colonial legacies, intergenerational trauma, and the culture of separation that fragments our lives. The film reveals how modernity severs our connection to nature, each other, and the ancestral realm, while feeding us empty promises of salvation, unlimited consumption and economic growth, and individual happiness. As we are drawn into the intricate web of kinship and honoring the living presence of Mother Earth, we awaken a deeper remembrance. A sacred dance comes to life and we begin to hear the eternal song of Life itself, calling us back to belonging. You can watch the trailer [here](https://theeternalsong.org/).

Belair Microcarpa and Lorikeet Loop Hike. 9:30am - 8km

Belair Microcarpa Hike and Lorikeet Loop Walk in Belair National Park. From the carpark we will make our way to Playford Lake and join the Microcarpa Hike, then will take the Lorikeet Loop Walk. Generally considered an easy route, we will walk through one of the most diverse and best preserved woodland areas remaining in the Mount Lofty Ranges. Grey box woodland (Eucalyptus microcarpa) is an endangered ecosystem. Once common across Adelaide, clearing has reduced it to remnants in the Adelaide Hills. On the Lorikeet Loop we will wind our way past Old Government House and the State Flora Nursery plus the Adventure Playground. The trail is well signposted and well maintained with some elevation and water on the track after rain. Look out for kangaroos and koalas along the trail. We’ll walk about 8 km and 84 m elevation. Parking in campsite (old golf course) car park is free. Exact map pin is shown. Medium pace for reasonably fit hill hikers. Pace is about 4kph up hills. Bring water, and wear good footwear. Coffee/brunch afterwards at the Escapegoat Goat Shed Bike Hire and Cafe. If you change your mind please change your attendance in meetup. To be fair to those on time we’ll only wait 5 mins for any latecomers. By recording a YES RSVP and/or attending this Event you are agreeing to our Policies & Guidelines and our Disclaimer & Release. Our path begins at the Kalorama lookout with its spectacular views over the Silvan Reservoir. After crossing Mount Dandenong road, we'll walk along pleasant trails that slowly descend towards the lower section of the Glasgow Fire trail. Our first short steep ascent climbs the first section of the infamous Scar Track. This section is rocky and requires careful footing. We'll then join turn east and walk along a quiet pleasant mostly flat section through the forest towards the Doongalla homestead and picnic ground. The trees change from towering eucalypts to a mix of old English woodland trees, and the path we take becomes narrow and winding along an uphill section of exquisite old charm English beauty. We will walk to the upper Doongalla picnic ground which has seats, and a picnic table and is situated in a cleared grass section. This is where we will stop for our lunch break. (there is a toilet block close by). The tracks now become steeper for several kilometres as we journey up towards the iconic telecommunications towers at the top of Mount Dandenong via some narrow trails and some wider paths. We will walk by Bourkes Lookout (amazing views across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne) and the Kyeema plane crash site where there is an information board telling of this unfortunate accident. The paths we take on our return to the beginning of the walk are mostly flat now. We'll either return via Ridge road where there are many beautiful gardens to view, or via Trig track.

Movie & Buffet Dinner Night; VIP Private Screening of "500 DAYS IN THE WILD"

Social Event - Movie & Dinner Night; We have organised a VIP Private Screening of the award winning movie; "500 DAYS IN THE WILD". The 2-hour documentary weaves together adventure, personal reflections, stunning wildlife, and human connection on the rigorous and beautiful TCT Trail, stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast, as well as the Arctic Ocean. 500 Days in the Wild dives deeply into both the physical and emotional travails of tackling an almost impossible adventure. 500 Days surprises with cinematic action, intimate experiences, and visual poetry. 500 Days In The Wild follows the epic 6-year journey of filmmaker Dianne Whelan as she sets out to reconnect with nature and become the first person to travel the world's longest trail. The 24,000 km Trans Canada Trail stretches across the continent of North America, connecting the Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific oceans. It is the longest trail in the world. For six years filmmaker Dianne Whelan traveled the entirety of the land and water trails, the only person to ever accomplish this journey. 500 Days (which is 12,000 hours) in the Wild recounts Dianne's journey by bike, canoe, skis, snowshoes and on foot and her cross-cultural visits with those who live close to the land. This feature doc culled from 800 hours of footage is an intricate weave of adventure film, personal reflection and stunning captures of wildlife and landscapes. Using humour, adventure, beautiful cinematography and a great soundtrack (including songs from Joni Mitchell, First Aid Kit, Xavier Rudd, and The Tragically Hip), 500 Days in the Wild will entertain audiences and inspire hope for the future. She started out alone, disillusioned with state of the world, to look for different ways of caring for the land and for each other. She ended the journey a bit wiser, more hopeful, in love and with a passion to share this story with you. This is an unforgettable journey and an unforgettable film.
