Capital City Trail Walk – 5 km, 10 km, or the Full Loop

Join us for a big, social day out walking the full Capital City Trail loop around inner Melbourne. We'll follow the trail at an easy, social pace, taking in the Yarra River, Merri Creek, Royal Park, and the Docklands waterfront along the way. The full AllTrails route is about 30 km as a loop, listed as moderately challenging, but it's mostly flat so it's more about stamina than fitness. Because it's a loop that weaves through the inner suburbs, the route stays close to trains and trams, so we can keep the plan nice and flexible. You can choose what suits you: * **Shorter option:** walk part of the loop and hop off early after a comfortable distance. Trains and trams are never far away. * **Full option:** complete the whole loop with the group back towards the start. This is a casual walk, not a fitness challenge. We'll keep an easy social pace, take breaks, and you're welcome to peel off early whenever you've had enough kilometres. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/JkFZ9YEgks9ibFms5](https://maps.app.goo.gl/JkFZ9YEgks9ibFms5) AllTrails route link: [https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/australia/victoria/capital-city-trail](https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/australia/victoria/capital-city-trail) **Rough timeline** * 9:00am – Meet outside Transport Hotel entrance and say hi * 9:15am – Start walking * 12:30–1:30pm – Lunch break * Around 5:00pm – Finish walking, with optional coffee afterwards **Hop-off points (for the shorter option)** If you'd like to peel off early, here are handy exit points along the way with the nearest public transport (distances are approximate, measured from the start): * \~10 km – Skipping Girl sign, Abbotsford → Burnley St/Victoria St (Tram 109) * \~15 km – Melbourne Polytechnic, Fairfield → Heidelberg Rd bus stop (approx. 11 min walk) * \~20 km – Poplar Oval → Royal Park Station (Upfield line) * \~25 km – Woolworths, The District Docklands → D10 NewQuay Prom/Docklands Dr (Trams 35, 70 & 86) **What to bring** * Comfortable walking shoes * Warm/weatherproof layer * Water * Snacks * Sunscreen **What to expect** * Distance: About 30 km for the full loop * Difficulty: Moderate according to AllTrails, but mostly flat, straightforward path walking * Pace: Slow, easy, and social * Vibe: Relaxed, low-pressure, and welcoming to solo attendees **Important notes** * You can do a shorter section and hop off early after as many kilometres as you like — the loop stays close to public transport. * It's a long day, so bring enough water, food, and sun protection. * The walk is weather-dependent, so please check the forecast and dress accordingly. * We'll aim to stay together, but the route is well-marked and flexible. * Optional coffee at the finish will depend on the group on the day.

Whale Hike! Cronulla, Captain Cook's Landing, Kamay Nat'l Park to a GREAT PUB!!!

**Cronulla, Kurnell, and "[Cook at Kurnell"](https://www.cookatkurnell.com.au/) (pub)** is part of Sydney not many have been to. Trust me, this hike is one you'll want to do. With the whales coming north, the cliff faces are the perfect viewing point(s) in June. If you've come on our Macmasters Beach to Killcare Beach & **Hardy’s Hideaway Pub** it’s in a similar spirit. If you missed it? Here’s your second chance at a memorable session... **Cronulla Beach to Kurnell / Kamay Botany National Park to the site of Captain Cook’s Landing to… “Cook at Kurnell”** for food and drinks. It's a 14.86kms hike. Imagine this: *“Hey Davo. Grandpa died. He left us the beach property. Let’s put some booze and beer kegs into his VW van and make a service window. And let’s empty out his trailer and put a kitchen in it. We’ll add picnic tables, umbrellas, live music and open a beach bar called Cook at Kurnell.”* Who knows if that's true. But **Cook at Kurnell** is exactly that kind of joint… **I’ve been to the bar – love it. I’ve done an hour hike to Kurnell – love it. And I love the Tozzi family who owns it.** **So? Grab my arm, and join me.** **[JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/FZiGipXk9kY5mqLh49wGa2)**[.](https://chat.whatsapp.com/C2OLdpsxYQo3Y88VDZlUvI) Team, please stop here. After you hit attend, come back to the event page - click on the link, and join the whatsapp group. It's a must for this event. **THE DETAILS:** **Driving?** 950am Find free parking at Greenhills Outdoor Basketball Court. Find me. Trains arrive every 10minutes. Coffee and bathrooms are right there. Bus to the starting point. **1010am Hike Starts!** **After the pub finish, 987 bus is right by Cook @ Kurnell that drops:** a) Close to the basketball courts (for drivers); b) Drops us train riders back at Cronulla Station. Easy! Winding through **Cronulla dunes** **and onto the beach** we’ll elevate into **Kamay Botany National Park**… I’m not going to write a lot about it. It’s absolutely beautiful. Cliffs. Ocean. Views. It’s 10/10 (look at the pics from the last hike). It’s medium-hard with some uphill bits but nothing crazy difficult. 14.5kms so be fit, healthy, and bring some good energy and thirst for a beer or two. See you for an epic hike and pub! (Regulatory catch-up, xrisk, global-coordination & geopolitical arms races, enforcement & logistics, existing capability overhang) * Technical AI safety - Mechanistic interpretability, linear probes, RLHF, behavioural evals * General AI alignment approaches: control vs motivation: \- control \(External Constraints\) focuses on building walls *around* the AI to restrict what it can do, trip wires etc. \- motivation \(Internal Alignment\) focuses on changing the AI’s inner desires so it *wants* to be ethical/help humans/act in accordance with the well-being of all sentience * AI ethics: how is it related to AI safety? What should be the target for AI alignment? Should the target be aggregate human preferences, religious doctrine, moral naturalism or something else? * Metaethics and ethics * Moral realism: a stance-independent moral ontology, useful for capturing non-arbitrary moral choice * Moral anti-realism: error theory, non-cognitivism, moral relativism etc * Can AI be fault-tolerantly aligned to moral realism or anti-realism? * Is sentience required for moral reasoning or moral deliberation? Can it be a hindrance? * Moral progress and indirect normativity * AI safety, automated persuasion, the orthogonality thesis * How epistemics (including science) makes progress * Health, wellness, and how to live a good life * Latest trends in AI: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude * Economic impacts of AGI, automation, and unbounded inequality * UBI and universal wealth redistribution * The likelihood of future doom or utopia * Human augmentation and hacking human potential * Plato's cave * Fun theory and value theory "All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking." - Nietzsche, *Twilight of the Idols* Philosophy discussions can feel quite sedentary - hence our experiment in cross-pollinating exercise with engaging discussion. Exerting mind and body together may produce a fascinating dynamic. A sedentary lifestyle (and, by association, philosophy) has been linked to depression, anxiety and chronic stress. Ease the anxieties of the armchair philosopher engaging in mental gymnastics with minimal muscle movement - join our raggle-taggle crew of aspiring philosophers walking the talk. Magic Mind & Peak Consciousness: Cultivating Psychic Abilities - Dr. Alex de Foe

**What if psychical abilities (psi) can be cultivated in earlier life?** What are the implications for modern society and our perception of the world? A new theory based on entropy and perception may hold the answers... After 70+ years of controlled studies into psychical phenomena, scholars still lack a cohesive theory of what makes them possible.... **In this presentation, Dr Alex De Foe** draws on his 15+ years of research to model psi as an emergent lifespan experience - understanding it in relation to neural development and entropy, experiences often reported by children. Drawing upon the "free energy model" in perception and social neuroscience, Alex will make the case for cultivation of psi in pivotal states of consciousness. Part 2 will focus on experiential analysis to support the argument, including case studies and a short practice task called 'Image Streaming' that engages aspects of the mind at the periphery of experience. **Image Streaming** is a technique that bridges the divide between the conscious, unconscious, and super-conscious mind, related to Michael Thalbourne's concept of 'transliminality', in which material flows between these dimensions of mind seamlessly. **Case studies will be presented from:** * Research into out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and lucid dreams * A new theory on archetypes and the collective unconscious * Speculative accounts at the bridge between spiritual emergence and spiritual 'emergency' **About Dr. Alexander De Foe (PhD, M Couns):** * Academic at Monash University (2021-2026). * Runs a research program on mindfulness/consciousness * At RMIT University (2016-2021), he managed a virtual reality lab focusing on embodied cognition and social neuroscience. * Published over 30 peer-reviewed studies/papers on consciousness, perception, and general psychology. * Chair of the Australian Centre for Consciousness Studies * Committee Member of the Australian Institute of Parapsychological Research * Associate Editor at the Anthropology of Consciousness Journal. **Post-Event Social Lunch Hangout (12.45 - 1.45pm)** NOTE: TRYING OUT NEW LUNCH VENUE... Afterwards, you are invited to lunch with everyone at **Gopal's Restaurant** (5min walk from the venue) **PLEASE NOTE:** * **11AM Start -** Please be considerate and arrive early. * **$10 Cover Charge:** Room hire, facilities, and running costs.

Winter solstice is the longest night of the year. The moment the earth stands still before the light begins its slow and gentle return. And this year the solstice arrives under a waning crescent moon - one of the most potent times in the lunar cycle for surrender and deep inner reflection. The waning crescent whispers to us to let go. To clear what no longer belongs. To make space for what is coming. This is not a coincidence. This is an invitation. Award winning Reiki Master 2025 Suzi (from Healing Moods) and Voice for Spirit Connie Rose are coming together to hold this sacred space for you. Two hours of deep nourishment for your mind, body and spirit at this powerful convergence of solstice and lunar energy. Together we will move through: Yoga nidra to bring you into a place of deep rest and surrender. A group deep healing reset with Reiki and Seichim to restore and realign your energy field. Intuitive movement to allow your body to express and release what words cannot. Spirit connection to open you to messages of love and guidance from those who walk beside you. Sacred space to rest, receive and come back to yourself. Come and be held as the darkness gives way to the returning light. Open to all. No experience necessary. Simply bring yourself and an open heart. Winter is asking you to stop. We are holding the space for you to actually do it. Spaces are strictly limited. - only 10 spaces Bring a friend for a discount x Book Now: [https://events.humanitix.com/the-sacred-pause-a-winter-solstice-ceremony/tickets](https://events.humanitix.com/the-sacred-pause-a-winter-solstice-ceremony/tickets?fbclid=IwY2xjawSYUbRleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETExT0dMZGkySWgyM3BmMTY4c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhfiSLMQ9qziil5t_l-tnBoj3C79oNqyM4YBz_xRmX5zCQzB3qYt1vWciOrU_aem_HlQp65Lmp89iQMop-d4F_Q)

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

The winter solstice marks a threshold moment. Cultures have gathered for eons to recognise cosmic events, not because we are promised some radical transformation, but because shared ritual cultivates fertile ground for a meaningful life through reflection, connection and growth. Rituals help us digest change, build resilience, and experience and express that which may not be so accessible in our day-to-day lives. This winter solstice day retreat is an opportunity to pause, reflect and explore what it means to loosen your grip, release a little clinging and grasping to open to a quality of presence with a little less of the magnetism of attachment. The longest night calls for an acknowledgement of darkness. Through recognition and ritual, we will embrace the darkness as part of the natural cycle of life, welcoming the perspectives it offers before orienting ourselves towards the illumination of the renewing sun. Through Asana, Kriya, Japa mantra and meditation, we will spiral inwards, using practices to encourage self-inquiry, release and mark transitions to more fully experience our own lives. **What to Expect** Cultivate tapas through asana. Cleanse and release with kriya. Reflect and integrate through journaling. Explore the potency of japa mantra. Soften and renew with meditation. Warming, nourishing vegan food, and time to connect and rest. **What to Bring** Bring a journal and pen. Come dressed in comfortable, layered clothing suited to movement and stillness. Mats, cushions and blankets are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own. *Cautions* If you are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have any other significant medical condition, please be in touch with Jessie before you book - 0477 166 867 [BOOK HERE](https://momence.com/l/R5hJnoAd)
