***Note to Attendees: Please consider making a $5 donation to contribute to the running costs of this Meetup.*** In a world saturated with expectations, algorithms, and inherited beliefs, the idea of “living authentically” has become almost sacred. We’re told to be true to ourselves—but what does that actually mean? Are we uncovering something real within us, or shaping an identity from the influences around us? From curated online personas to alternative lifestyles that promise freedom, authenticity is often talked about—but rarely examined. As Søren Kierkegaard put it, *“The most common form of despair is not being who you are.”* But this raises a deeper question—what if who you are isn’t something fixed, waiting to be found? If our desires, values, and sense of self are shaped long before we question them, then what exactly are we being “authentic” to? At our next Brisbane meetup, we’ll explore what it really means to live authentically—whether it’s possible, desirable, or just another modern ideal we’ve absorbed without thinking. The questions we will address are: 1. **Is authenticity discovered—or created?** 2. **Are your desires actually yours?** 3. **Is there a “true self” to be true to?** 4. **Is rejecting the mainstream just another way of being defined by it?** This event will be held at **The Burrow in West End, Brisbane**. **PLEASE NOTE:** Please support the venue by purchasing a drink or meal during the event. This is intended to be a good-natured but robust discussion. Please be respectful and prepared to have your ideas challenged. If you are easily offended, this event may not be for you.
