Velvet Shock is back and can’t wait to party with you! They’re ready to rock on 6 June with ‘Retrobeats Unlimited at The Underground.’ Turning up the heat with all of your favourite hits and hot tunes at Lyric’s Underground, it’ll be a night of nostalgic beats you won’t want to miss! Velvet Shock will have you singing along and rocking out on the dance floor as they play classics from the 70s, 80s, 90s & 00s - bringing you a night of retro awesomeness to shake off the winter blues. Their six-piece line-up includes Lisa Fuller (lead vocals), Chris Galvin (bass, vocals), Michael Ioannakis (drums), Larry Mulder (rhythm guitar, vocals), Olivia Soklevski (keys, vocals) and Brendan Watson (lead guitar, vocals). Grab your friends and head to Lyric Lane for dinner before the show - doors open at 7pm and show starts 7.30pm sharp. **We invite you to The Mantra Room, a friendly community sharing spiritual practice of Mantra Meditation, Kirtan & Wisdom & Vegan Meal.** **\~\~** Kirtan is the singing of ancient Vedic mantras, spiritually uplifting songs, prayers and the Sacred Names of the Supreme. Rather than being a type of performance, Kirtan is a journey of self discovery. This ancient yogic practice was traditionally accompanied with Indian instruments. In the hands and voices of contemporary practitioners, Kirtan has been transported beautifully to all cultural and musical styles without losing its genuine spiritual authenticity. Weaving together melody, music and mantra with people responding to the words of the singer, clapping, swaying and sometimes dancing, Kirtan is simultaneously a meditative, exhilarating and fun activity. On Wednesdays, we have Gayatri and Anah taking us on a mellow kirtan journey. Interweaving guided breathwork, soothing music & mantras to deepen your meditation, this Mantra Immersion evening is both soothing and uplifting. You will be sure to leave feeling lighter, calmer and truly nourished within. Come and be part of the choir that joy built! Singing in Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Hunter Region and Online since 2010, we are all-inclusive community choirs and we’re on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to make a joyful noise together. We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability. So, West End - let's get singing! New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums, daughters/mums, sons/dads, daughters/sets of sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! *** THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - West End/Hybrid Online, directed by Jaq Larsen, rehearses on Wednesday evenings. We start singing at 6.30pm but we are set up and ready to go from 6pm so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. Rehearsals go through until 8.30pm. We usually make our way to a local pub for a post-rehearsal drink and some social time, although on the last week of every month we stay at The Latvian Hall for BYO drinks and a shared plate! Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more. Your first rehearsal is FREE so you can come along and check us out without obligation. Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. You can pay by the term ($205 standard or $133 concession/under 30s) or on a weekly recurring subscription basis ($18 standard or $12 concession/under 30s). Concession rates apply to students, concession card holders, pensioners etc and under 30s with our #under30perks We will give you a member pack with a lyric book and access to all the resources you need once you've signed up. Then each week you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and don’t forget your glasses! Soul Song Brisbane - West End/Hybrid Online, rehearses on Wednesdays from 6.30-8.30pm at Ahepa Hall, 128 Boundary Street, West End, QLD. This is a hybrid rehearsal which means you can also join via Zoom, so please get in touch with us if you like to give our online option a try! *** We'd love to see you at rehearsal soon!
