After years of carving out a devoted following up north, TRANSGENRE – the largest grassroots initiative celebrating trans and non-binary voices in Australian music – will finally make its Naarm debut this August, coming in hot with the fourth edition of its flagship music festival. Not only that, TRANSGENRE Volume IV be the biggest one yet, running over two full days with 16 of the country's best and brightest live acts.Living up to the festival's namesake, each day of TRANSGENRE Volume IV will feature an eclectic bill of styles from acoustic folk to hyperpop, hardcore punk and underground rap.Day one will see local punk icons Beth Seymour & The Lizzies close out a massive afternoon of genre-bending mayhem, with glitchy breakcore and jungle from Cyberfae and Heather Vomiting God; floor-shaking riffs from Sage and Sundreamer; an indie-rock extravaganza from My Giddy Aunt; and some more lowkey pop and folk vibes from kayls (whose set will mark their Naarm debut) and Local Sweetheart. Then, on day two, hyperpop queen June Jones will lead the fray on an epic journey through sound, with her showstopping energy only usurped by the unhinged chaos of rappers Stokahr and Dredd. Collie Perfect will give day two its electronic kick, while the indie vibes come courtesy of Max Aurora & The Southern Lights, and soon-to-be national sweethearts Workfriend. Add in the new wave spark of LXRP, and the heartrending emo swoon of Leo, and we've got one hell of a sonic rollercoaster on our hands. The transgender live music revolution is upon us, and it's at TRANSGENRE Volume IV that Naarm's battalion unites. Be there or be cis.
