Sydney-based artist Ruby Jackson returns to the stage to celebrate the release of her sophomore EP This Love Thing. If you haven’t yet discovered Ruby’s captivating blend of R&B, soul and jazz, you're in for a treat. Her newest single, 'Usual Type', has just been released to give us another taste of what we can expect from This Love Thing. Ruby Jackson's rich vocals and emotional depth in her songwriting and live performance quickly sets her apart as one of Australia’s most exciting emerging voices. Following standout releases 'Out of Fashion', 'Guilty Pleasure', 'You've Changed', and 'Ten Years From Now' , and her 2023 debut EP Sweeter For Me, Ruby has garnered support and plays on Triple J and Double J, while building a reputation for unforgettable live shows. She has appeared at major festivals including BIGSOUND, SXSW Sydney, Blues on Broadbeach, Woodford Folk Festival, Sydney Festival, and more, alongside sold-out headline shows at venues like The Lansdowne, Milton Theatre, ACO On The Pier, and The Vanguard. Ruby has also shared the stage with acclaimed acts such as BOY SODA, Ball Park Music, Morcheeba, Ngaiire and Bumpy. Now, she returns with her full band for a special headline performance, celebrating This Love Thing and bringing new tracks like 'Against The Wall' and 'Usual Type' to life on stage.

Weaving together melody, music and mantra with people responding to the words of the singer, clapping, swaying and sometimes dancing, Kirtan is simultaneously a meditative, exhilarating and fun activity. On Wednesdays, we have Gayatri and Anah taking us on a mellow kirtan journey. Interweaving guided breathwork, soothing music & mantras to deepen your meditation, this Mantra Immersion evening is both soothing and uplifting. Come and be part of the choir that joy built! Singing in Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Hunter Region and Online since 2010, we are all-inclusive community choirs and we’re on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to make a joyful noise together. We sing a range of pop, soul and gospel songs that you'll love to sing and that our audiences will love to hear. Our secret weapon lies in the way we do things - our rehearsals are judgement-free places where you can sing in safety regardless of experience or ability. So, West End - let's get singing! New members from 18 upwards are welcome at any time and your first rehearsal is FREE so you can check us out without obligation. Our members are teachers, electricians, nurses, lawyers, business owners, students, retirees and retail workers - we have quite a few mums, daughters/mums, sons/dads, daughters/sets of sisters too so it's a great way to stay connected with your family and have fun together! Some have a heap of musical experience when they come to us but the majority have little or none. Everything about Soul Song is designed to make life easy for you. We know you're busy so there are no committees and no expectation for you to come to every single rehearsal - you just come when you feel like singing. What's even better is that there are no auditions and you don't even have to be able to read music. We teach all the songs by ear in a fun and relaxed atmosphere and we provide you with all the lyrics you need as well as some additional resources for those who want to practice on their own during the week. The songs we sing are generally pop songs from all eras but with some gospel, Motown and soul thrown in. We sing generally in three or four part harmony and with either professional backing tracks or a cappella (which means without instruments). We are on a mission just to get people singing by providing a fun and funky space for people of all musical experience to sing together music that is good for the soul. But be warned - we play as hard as we sing! *** THE REHEARSAL EXPERIENCE Soul Song Brisbane - West End/Hybrid Online, directed by Jaq Larsen, rehearses on Wednesday evenings. We start singing at 6.30pm but we are set up and ready to go from 6pm so you are welcome to come in early to say hi and get set up and settled in. Rehearsals go through until 8.30pm. We usually make our way to a local pub for a post-rehearsal drink and some social time, although on the last week of every month we stay at The Latvian Hall for BYO drinks and a shared plate! Rehearsals are primarily about working on repertoire and building vocal technique but we try to mix things up each week to keep them interesting and we also work a lot in smaller sections to help songs progress faster. Those who come the most often get the most out of Soul Song but there is no expectation for people to come every single week and we have lots of resources available for those who miss a week or a few to help them catch up if they want to. You'll get more information on this when you join, but these include online rehearsals, rehearsals recordings, audio learning tracks, video tutorials, sheet music, technical tutorials and more. Your first rehearsal is FREE so you can come along and check us out without obligation. Once you sign up as a member and pay your fees, you can attend as many rehearsals a week online or in person as you want. You can pay by the term ($205 standard or $133 concession/under 30s) or on a weekly recurring subscription basis ($18 standard or $12 concession/under 30s). Concession rates apply to students, concession card holders, pensioners etc and under 30s with our #under30perks We will give you a member pack with a lyric book and access to all the resources you need once you've signed up. Then each week you come, you just need to bring some water, a highlighter, pen or pencil, your lyric book and don’t forget your glasses! Soul Song Brisbane - West End/Hybrid Online, rehearses on Wednesdays from 6.30-8.30pm at Ahepa Hall, 128 Boundary Street, West End, QLD.
