taste-tee: work by Kristina Neumann + Annie Parnell Gang Gang Bar + Cafe 6.30-9pm Please join us for one lovely winter evening of sharing distinct artworks, some drinks and warming music in our bold rearrangement of Gang Gang feature some of Canberra’s most innovative and experimental craft objects. The night will surround two exhibitions with works for purchase and an artist fundraiser. The first exhibition is a collaborative exhibition between Annie Parnell & Kristina Neumann, who work across the field of contemporary craft, design and art. An experimental contemporary craft exhibition with a cross between functional and non, with works ranging from jewellery pieces to highly sculptural ceramic ware. There will be a mix of pieces produced both separately and as a collaboration. The second is a Canberra Red Brick pin fundraiser event for Kristina Neumann’s travels to undertake study in Germany in September this year. Kristina has spent the past few years making works about home. One of the primary materials she has used to create this work is Canberra Red Brick. The materiality of the red brick evokes strong connection to place and takes up a soft spot in the hearts of many locals. In 2019, Neumann was offered a place at Trier University of Applied Sciences, to undertake a Masters of Fine Art in Gemstones and Jewellery. An incredible experimental jewellery program which will continue to add and shape her career trajectory. While the degree is free, she will still need funds for materials and living expenses. The Canberra Red Brick Pin Fundraiser is an effort to raise funds for said expenses while she studies full-time overseas for two years. There will be a limited edition of 100 pins for sale. This event takes place on the unceded lands of the Ngunawal, Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. Our practice is contextualised by the creative practices of those who have created with and cared for this land since time immemorial.10% of art sales on the night will be donated to Pay The Rent (paytherent.net.au) ----------------- ABOUT THE ARTISTS Annie Parnell is an early career artist based in Kambri/Canberra. Her experimental sculptural centres around chance as an essential part of the making process. Combining materials and making processes in unusual ways to allow for the emergence of a deviant craft visual language. As well as her experimental work, her minimalist tableware line, ritualceramics, embraces functionality through clean lines and a muted palette. ritualceramics is stocked across Canberra and in use at local cafes Kyo, Barrio, Threemills, Terra and Intra. Annie is currently completing her honours in Sculpture at the ANU School of Art and Design. She completed her undergraduate double degree majoring in Ceramics and Art History and Curatorship in 2020. Her first solo show was at Strathnairn Arts in 2021 and her work has been included in Talente 2021: International Craft Exhibition Prize (Munich), Emerging Contemporaries (Craft ACT), The Chef and The Potter (Canberra Potters Society). https://parnellannie.wixsite.com/website Kristina Neumann is a multi-award-winning Kambri/Canberra-based jeweller in the early stage of her career. Her jewellery spans a range of eminently wearable every-day pieces and experimental, one-off exhibition works. Periodic exhibitions allow Kristina to test and explore unusual surfaces, textures and materials like Canberra red brick, which she then uses as inspiration for her line of pieces designed for every-day wear. Her range of square-profile hoop earrings have fast become a Canberra classic, both minimal and innovative enough to be worn by anyone, with anything. Kristina graduated from the ANU School of Art and Design Jewellery & Object workshop with First Class Honours in 2019, and her jewellery has been awarded the Talente 2020: International Craft Exhibition Prize, Wearables Emerging Artist Prize, and the CAPO Robert Foster Memorial Award.
