Hailing from the rugged creative landscape of Nipaluna (Hobart), Poltergeist 9000 is a high-decibel synth-punk duo that exists at the volatile intersection of visual art and visceral noise made up of Iggy Clue & Cal 9000. Built on a foundation of DIY ethos and raw experimentation, the band takes the classic drum-and-bass duo format and pushes it through a blender of hyper-energetic punk and industrial grit. Drawing inspiration from the frantic architecture of Lightning Bolt, the genre-bending audacity of The Garden, and the electronic carnage of The Prodigy and Atari Teenage Riot, Poltergeist 9000 creates a blistering sound After a prolific 2024 defined by the release of two full-length albums—Warhol’s Kiss and I Can See Pam and Her Legendary Hands—the band signaled a bold new era in late 2025. Their most ambitious project to date, the collaborative EP Higher Frequencies, was forged alongside close friend and creative ally Finlay Ross. ‘A blistering combination of sound that bridges the gap between a DIY garage session and a 90s underground rave’ - Thanks for Coming The EP represents a total sonic expansion. While the band previously collaborated with Ross on the "Doppelgänger" music video, this project marks their first true musical partnership. The lead single and title track, “Higher Frequencies,” debuted to immediate acclaim, securing premieres on triple j Unearthed and U.S. tastemaker Idioteq. Its accompanying video—a surreal, cut-and-paste fever dream directed by Nikola Jokanovic and shot on eight vintage cameras—quickly picked up rotation on RAGE, cementing the trio's reputation for visual chaos. A formidable live force that has traversed the country supporting heavyweights such as CIVIC, Powerplant (UK), Wargasm (UK), and Posseshot. From headlining the Enmore Hotel to delivering high-concept performances at WINGS Fashion Week, their stage presence is defined by a relentless assault of energy that translates seamlessly to the airwaves. Their "loud and proud" output has earned consistent support across the digital and broadcast landscape, including regular play on triple j, FBi Radio, RRR, and 4ZZZ, as well as video rotations on RAGE for tracks like "Wild One." Whether tearing through standout sets at festivals like Chalk Fest, Pinch Fest, and Lawn Fest or dominating the airwaves, the duo remains a constant, blistering presence in the alternative scene.
