Get Shorty at The Revival House PerthMiami loan shark Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is sent to Las Vegas to collect a debt, then to Los Angeles to track down dry cleaner Leo Devoe (David Paymer), who faked his death to collect insurance money. In Hollywood, Chili crosses paths with B-movie producer Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman), who owes money to dangerous casino owner Bo Catlett (Delroy Lindo). Chili, a movie buff who's always dreamed of being in the film business, sees opportunity: he'll help Harry make a real movie while sorting out his own collection problems. As Chili pitches his own life story as a film, he navigates Hollywood's bizarre ecosystem of fading stars like Karen Flores (Rene Russo), drug-dealing limo drivers, and psychotic actors like Martin Weir (Danny DeVito). The lines between Chili's criminal world and the movie business blur—both require intimidation, negotiation, and knowing when to bluff.Director Barry Sonnenfeld adapts Elmore Leonard's novel into a smart, witty Hollywood satire that works as both crime comedy and insider commentary on the film industry. John Travolta delivers his coolest performance, making Chili effortlessly charismatic as a mobster who realizes criminals and producers operate by similar rules. The 1995 film's screenplay crackles with Leonard's sharp dialogue and observational humor about how movies get made. Gene Hackman brings desperate energy to the hack producer, while Rene Russo shines as the former scream queen seeking respectability. The supporting cast—including Danny DeVito's hilarious turn as a narcissistic movie star—creates a gallery of Hollywood types. Don Zimmerman's editing keeps the complicated plot clear, while the film never loses sight of character amid the schemes. It's effortlessly entertaining.Original format and audio experience of this film faithfully reproduced by The Revival House.
