Tired of coding alone? Come join us at the Brisbane Coder Club (in a cafe). This is a great chance to work on projects, discuss technology and learn about other's projects. We will write code, drink coffee/tea and have lunch. You will need your laptop, or you will be bored. Previous meetings of the Coder Club have seen projects such as writing timesheet accounting apps, demonstrating 2D video games written in Excel and learning new website development software. We have had people working in simple text editors and with coding agents like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot cloud agents. You do not need to be a "133t hax0r" to attend; we welcome anyone who wants to learn new skills and technologies. However, you do need you to bring your own ideas and projects, as this is a group where we are working on our own tasks. As the powerpoints are difficult to access, we recommend ensuring that your laptop is fully charged prior to attending. **Note that we are meeting in a cafe - you cannot bring your own food or drink.** Let's have fun while building cool stuff together.

Short Story Club is a reading club for time-poor people who love speculative fiction. Just like other clubs we read the story and discuss it... though expect to go deeper into craft as writers. This session we're reading Tia Tashiro's 'Missing Helen', a 2026 Hugo and Locus Award-nominated story. This is available free to read through [Clarkesworld #226](https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/tashiro_07_25/) and its [audio version](https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/audio_07_25). June's Short Story Club is co-hosted with 2026 Parramatta Laureate **Eda Gunaydin** at Western Sydney University. Meet at noon for a light lunch (provided) and we'll start the main event at 12.30pm. No need to bring anything but your thoughts, having read the story. Please indicate any dietary requirements when you RSVP. *Image credit: 'Alone' by Matt Dixon*

**We're bringing you a new series in 2026: *Depth, Discovery and Discussion*.** Girls Who Boss Melbourne is creating a space for real talk, shared wisdom and genuine connection — and you’re invited. This new series is all about coming together as a community to explore meaningful topics in a way that feels safe, intentional and refreshingly honest. This month's theme? **Artificial intelligence** \- it's on our mind\, and in the copies of the Harvard Business Review we read\, and it's time we talked about it\. The uses for it\, the fears around it\, the ethics and all\. This isn’t a speech, seminar or expert-led workshop. It’s a guided conversation shaped by all of us. Girls Who Boss will bring a set of thoughtful prompts and questions to spark dialogue, but the insight will come from the stories, perspectives and lived experiences we each bring to the table. Expect a day of: ✨ Deep chats without the pressure ✨ Discovery through shared perspectives ✨ Discussion that feels grounding, supportive and fun ✨ Connecting with women who want to grow, reflect and boss up together Whether you come with something on your mind or simply want to listen and connect, this is a space for curiosity, vulnerability and community-led learning. Come join the conversation — we can’t wait to dive deeper with you.

Due to the financial pressure of our current climate, rescue centres have never felt more strain. More pets are being surrendered than ever before, while happy homes and donations continue to dwindle. Come celebrate the people who keep showing up for the lost, the abandoned, and the not-quite-right. We reached out to our friends. They wanted to help. They donated their time and their skills so we can get some much needed cash to the places that need it most. So, we’ve planned an action-packed day of fun just for you! Billy, our annual trivia host and all-round legend, has an animal-themed trivia session ready to go… and his mate is lining up a wicked DJ set for his grand entrance. Saying what you actually need, without melting down or shutting down, is hard. For a lot of neurodivergent folks it is even harder: rejection sensitivity, masking, and a lifetime of being told we are "too much" or "too blunt" can leave us stuck between bottling things up and exploding. This month we are getting practical. We will work through two well-tested toolkits for asking for what you want and setting boundaries that stick: **NVC (Nonviolent Communication)**: a simple structure of observation, feeling, need, and request that helps you say the hard thing without blame or apology. **DBT DEARMAN**: a step-by-step script (Describe, Express, Assert, Reinforce, stay Mindful, Appear confident, Negotiate) for getting a request across and holding your ground. Expect plenty of real examples, low-pressure practice, and a chance to workshop a tricky conversation you have been avoiding. No prior knowledge needed. Come as you are, stim freely, step out whenever you need to. This is a relaxed, judgement-free space for neurodivergent adults (ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, and the still-figuring-it-out crowd all welcome). Allies and partners welcome too. Bring yourself, bring a situation, and we will figure out the words together.

inkind Helps You to Make Plans for Friendship Brisbane-based folk duo inkind are set to release their second single ‘Lets Make Plans' on the 21st June at Brisbane’s iconic Junk Bar. Through songs of life lived and lessons learned, inkind encourage us to look after ourselves and one another. A heartfelt musical collaboration by Erin & Nate; two seasoned singer-songwriters who each continue to carve their own path across the Australian music landscape (as Miss Elm and Conspiracy of One respectively), brought together by a shared love of storytelling and human connection, their songs weave together themes of compassion, empathy and growth with a wicked sense of humour. 2025 saw some big milestones with the band as they released their debut single ‘Feels Like Home’ to a sell out house concert, received acclaim for their performances at Woodford Folk Club and reached the semi-finals in Listen Up Music’s Songwriting Prize, the Australian Songwriters Association’s songwriting awards and the International Songwriting Competition. In 2026, both singles (and other songs) are to be heard in the newly released feature film ‘All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane’ the sequel to the cult classic ‘All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane’ released in 2007. The duo’s songs provide a welcome audible backdrop to key moments in the new film. ‘Let's Make Plans’, produced by Samuel Ayling (a.k.a. This New Light) in his charming sunshine coast studio drops the listener into a feeling of warm fuzzies with hopeful acoustic guitars, earthy violin & banjo and the meditative harmonies inkind are beginning to be known for. It evokes a feeling of inspired action with apologetic lyrics in the chorus such as ‘lets make plans, let’s do all the things we said’ and ‘sorry I forgot to call… my schedule’s like a waterfall’. The memorable melodies of the track remain long after listening, planting the reminder that it’s never too late to catch up with a friend. inkind will be encouraging new found fans to ‘make plans’ to connect in person at their live single launch 21st June at Brisbane’s cosy Junk Bar supported by singer-songwritier Maddison Kate. About Maddison; Brisbane-based Maddison Kate has an enchanting voice, singing the songs of old souls. She writes delicately braided lyrics that explore truths of the human experience and aims to build connection with others through her introspective Follow inkind below: https://www.instagram.com/inkindfolk https://www.facebook.com/inkindfolk Contact: inkindfolk@gmail.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@inkindfolk https://inkindfolk.bandcamp.com/track/feels-like-home

With live performances from: Ajak Kwai Alcides Neto Maryam Rahman Ashkan Shafiei Shewit Brenda Jacky Winter If you’re keen to support by lending a hand on the day, contributing to the raffle draw, or if you’ve some more creative ideas, please send us a message on the website! — This is an all-ages event, and kids under 12 are free, however must be accompanied by an adult. The Evelyn is wheelchair accessible — access for wheelchair users is via Kerr & Brunswick Street. Please see the security staff or call the venue in advance on 9419 5500 for entry if you need a hand! Please note that the toilets are currently ambulant but not accessible. This event takes place on the unceded sovereign lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We offer deep respect and gratitude to their elders, past and present. Storytelling, listening and exchange have long existed here, and enduring Indigenous connections to these lands, skies and waters are sacred and exemplary. It always was, and always will be Aboriginal Land.
