Learn and play co-op board game Earthborne Rangers, in Victoria Park

We invite you to **play around & find out\*** how much fun and solidarity comes from playing together at a table in a beautiful park, forming new social groups and stimulating the mind and imagination. Free and volunteer-powered. In Earthborne Rangers you explore a world with optimistic “solarpunk” themes as you work as a team to succeed together. ER is like Dungeons & Dragons but a nice change from grim dungeon-crawling and disaster-fighting, and has more structure, less improvisation. Learn more about ER [here](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/342900/earthborne-rangers). Lifelong game designer Matthew Ford will teach and play. The first half gives you the general idea. After a short break you can continue into more depth for the next half. You will get invited to events for continued intermediate play. Step 1: RSVP to this event and **fill out the form at [this link](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Z31irtO0tZe8dIW7pxdrY2tKaYp8sdoH5XIoUVOffT0/edit)** to state when you would prefer to play. Step 2: **Wait until we send you a message** via Meetup and email stating which time slot we booked you into. Step 3: At your time slot, use the "how to find us" section-- please read it carefully, don't just put destination into a map app. Look for Matthew in a blue hat and gray beard. Free event. Nothing to bring or prepare. Come as you are, even if you know absolutely nothing about it. **We welcome absolutely everyone and ensure a supportive and inclusive atmosphere**. We've face-to-face taught games to over 1000 people of every kind-- join us! Read all this event info and comments carefully both ahead of time and **just before you attend,** as our location and method may change slightly. **How to find us at The Lookout in Victoria Park:** * [From QUT Kelvin Grove campus](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mhSbmU82uMWKtQMD6ofhV0vuypU_9gMwybbtNEj6Z_s) * [From Centenary Aquatic Centre in Spring Hill](https://docs.google.com/document/d/15odzo0s6OsFT0NfyFWeSRbNZRLMkfemD8JOMetsxu20) \* Bonus info for all who care: As stadium developers approach Victoria Park/Barrambin, they will **find out** how much our community values this special place. Two promise-breaking Olympic stadiums are slated to be built in Victoria Park. Let's **help them find out** why they had better leave this park as undisturbed as possible. We are not led by [www.savevictoriapark.com](http://www.savevictoriapark.com/) or the [Goori Camp Embassy](https://www.instagram.com/gooricampembassy/) but those are a good way to learn more. Hey stadium developers, here we are! Play Around and Find Out! :)

Bassendean Meditation Class

Don’t miss out on these free, casual meditation classes! The meditation classes cater for people of all experience levels and are run in a relaxed environment. No stretches or physical exercises are involved in learning this simple yet effective technique. **Effortless Meditation** The word ‘Sahaja’ can be translated as ‘Spontaneous’ or ‘Simple’, and is at the outset a hypothesis that meditation can come easily for those who are willing to practice regularly (even briefly each day). Sahaja Yoga defines meditation as ‘thoughtless awareness’, a state where you are completely conscious but at the same time completely without thought. In this state, we gain a unique perspective and insight into the beauty of our own innate nature. Physical and mental health benefits have also been attributed to regular meditation practice through comprehensive Australian research (Learn more in the book ‘silence your mind’ or at www.beyondthemind.com). Sahaja Yoga meditation was founded by HH Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970, and is based on kundalini awakening. Shri Mataji felt that meditation is an essential part of our spiritual growth. She felt that because meditation is so essential, a free and simple method to achieve it must be made available for everyone. Sahaja Yoga is now practiced in over 52 countries worldwide. **Learn more here** https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpn47Y9bqAkucSPCMYJqONCaytIUlvQcX

Pickleball is a paddle sport you can learn in minutes and play for a lifetime. It brings together elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong to create a sport that’s fun for all ages and skill levels, but gets fast-paced and exhilarating at competitive levels. How is pickleball different to other net sports? * It’s easier to pick up than many net sports * It’s lower impact than tennis, so it’s easier on the body * It focuses on quick reflexes and aiming, rather than spiking the ball, powerful serves, or running speed These differences open pickleball up to a greater range of players. Whether you’ve been playing tennis your whole life, or you’re walking onto a court for the first time; whether you’re young, old, or in between; whether you’re strategic and competitive, or just want to get involved in something fun, social, or active… pickleball is for you.

Event details: * **Location** \- Tetto Rooftop Bar in Everton Park * **Start time** \- 6:45pm for a 7pm trivia start time * **Meetup point** \- I’ll have a table booked under ‘Marnie’ * **End time** \- 9:00pm\, or whenever we decide to stop chatting :\) * **What to bring** \- yourself \+ money for food/drink if you would like to buy some **Important:** Numbers are limited for this event, so if you can’t attend please update your RSVP accordingly. Its also why I’ve got an RSVP by date so I know numbers for table booking. Please don’t show up if you don’t have a confirmed RSVP. **Personal disclaimer:** I've run a number of meetups in the past (in Sydney) and attended many more (all over the world), and I have learned it best not to give anyone my phone number straight away. If you need help or are lost on the day, please use the comments section or send me a message using the meetup app. Also, I expect a level of common sense and independence of those attending these events. While I definitely want to be welcoming and help foster conversation, I won't be baby sitting anyone. At the end of the day, you need to be responsible for yourself - it's just a common courtesy so that everyone can have a good time. Thanks!

O.G.R.E in the South Boardgames

Welcome anyone interested in tabletop boardgames. I am intending to revive the boardgame groups previously run in the south, such as Southside Boardgames and OGRE. I imagine initially we will be small but over time expand into a vibrant group of gamers of all tastes and skill levels. I have been using the Penshurst RSL club facilities for a few months now and have found the club to be friendly and accommodating to our gaming needs. In terms of types of games I have an eklectic collection and can cater for a vast array of tastes and skilll levels. Also we are very open to others bringing their own games and sharing the experience with us. The plan is to start gaming at 7pm or close to it, however some of us will arrive earlier (6pm) to share a meal at the well priced bistro and everyone is welcome to join us. Note: On Wednesday the club runs a meat raffle and as a result quite a few people will be there, however it is over by 7.15pm and the the bistro quickly evacuates, leaving us plenty of room for games. Nonetheless I will book 3 tables from 6pm. I strongly encourage people to join the club as the benefits in this club are quite substantial and well worth it. In terms of a sampling of some of the games we play I will list a few here, but this is just a sampling. Catan, Pandemic, Dominant Species, Splendour, Camel Up, Takenoko, Tigris Euphrates, Ark Nova, Brass, Pax Pamir, For Sale, 6Nimmt, Just One, Dixit, Tzolkin,Thunder Road, Stone Age, Small World, Scout, The Crew, Viticulture, El Grande, Broom Service, Cockroach Poker, Puerto Rico..... We play through most of the night so if you cannot make it by 7pm that is fine we will be starting other games as well.

West Coast Eagles: A Digital Journey

West Coast Eagles: A Digital Journey

For our next meetup, we’ll be learning about digital transformation in a sector that we haven’t explored before as a community, but that is certainly close to the hearts of many Australians — sport. Our speaker is Rory Furness, Head of Data & Governance for the West Coast Eagles. Rory will be sharing an honest, first-hand account of the West Coast Eagles' digital journey, from humble beginnings to a data-driven, member-first organisation. This session will explore the club’s approach to technology adoption, digital fan engagement, and operational innovation. Rory will cover the key phases of that journey: early infrastructure and CRM foundations, the move into Perth Stadium and Mineral Resources Park, the post-COVID realignment of their data and MarTech plans, and the current work around Microsoft Fabric, AI agents and unified fan identity. The session is less about the technology itself and more about the practical lessons, trade-offs and cultural shifts that come with delivering transformation inside one organisation over a long period. There will be time for questions and discussion after the presentation, followed by networking over drinks and pizzas. Registration is essential, and we hope to see many new and familiar faces on 24 June! \-\-\- *Thank you to our supporters who make these events possible: our venue supporter [Spacecubed](https://spacecubed.com/), and our principal sponsor [Rmkble](https://rmkble.com.au/?utm_source=meetup&utm_medium=event-page-june&utm_campaign=dtp-sponsorship-2026), the home of JourneyOne, ProcessPath and DataDivers.* \-\-\- **Meet our speaker:** **Rory Furness** *Head of Data & Governance, West Coast Eagles* Rory is a data and technology leader with close to three decades of experience across the UK and Australia, the last 18 spent at the West Coast Eagles — where he has grown alongside the club from a two-person IT team to leading data engineering, governance and AI strategy today. As Head of Data & Governance, Rory is responsible for the club's cloud data platform, MarTech ecosystem and emerging AI capability — spanning Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Dynamics 365 / SportsRM, Braze, Power BI and Microsoft 365 Copilot. His current focus is building a governed, AI-ready data foundation that lifts fan engagement, commercial value and on-field performance for one of the AFL's most followed clubs. Previously Head of Technology for both the West Coast Eagles and the Waalitj Foundation, Rory has led the club's major technology transitions — from the move into Perth Stadium, to the Mineral Resources Park fit-out at Lathlain, to the rollout of an enterprise-wide data and AI strategy.
