Master the Art of Better Decisions

This interactive session equips you with practical tools to enhance Emotional Intelligence (EI), manage cognitive biases and make better decisions by mastering System 1 (emotional reactivity) and System 2 (logical analysis) thinking where EI serves as the vital bridge between the two. By attending this session you will unlock: * Improved decision making: Reduce the "hidden tax" of cognitive shortcuts. Know when to trust our 'gut feelings' and when to switch to rational thought. * Greater performance under pressure: Learn to recognise triggers and pivot from reactive impulses to deliberate, strategic choices when the stakes are high. * Better collaboration: When you regulate your own System 1 responses, psychological safety flourishes, which leads to better collaboration. * Increased resilience: Build a team that doesn’t just survive volatility but thrives in it. ***Facilitators*** ***[Caidryn Roder](https://www.linkedin.com/in/caidyrn/):*** *Co-founded ProSocia and has over 20 years of experience helping people and organisations thrive. Wednesday Conder/Gordon walk - off leash ovals and mountain views

Bridget will lead this dog-friendly and people-friendly walk through Conder and Gordon offering long and short options. The walk includes two large off leash ovals, a dog paddling opportunity, pretty mountain and lake views, and a longish stretch following a little creek. It's a flat, easy route of about 5.5 km with paved options along the way - except across some grassy ovals. Expect it to take up to 2 hours to complete with a group. However there is also the option of a shorter version - missing the Point Hut Pond loop if you prefer - totalling about 3 km. The walk starts and ends behind the petrol station at the Lanyon Market Place (the local Conder shopping centre), which has plenty of free parking and a dog-friendly venue for our after-walk coffee addicts. You can see more detail about the walk and a google map of the route on our [website](https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/conder-gordon-walk/). Important info: * You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour; by rsvping 'yes' to this walk you understand and agree to this condition. * All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. * We ask $7.50 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason. * For more information about how we operate our walks, go to our [FAQ page](https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/canberra-walks-guided-walks-faqs/).

There will be food, networking and some surprise swag!Agenda: 6:20 - Intro 6:30 - Talks 8:00 till late - networking & chat (& drinks optional)Speakers and Talks: Talk 1: Olga Mirensky - Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer @ Ping Identity Olga and Her Agent Attended AI Engineer Conference. Lessons Learned What happens when you let an experimental Stand-In Agent run loose against a live conference environment? To follow the fast-paced sessions of an AI Engineer conference, I built an agent while at the conference. The agent monitored talks and distilled what actually mattered to me - filtering for high-value signal and turning it into specs ready to implement or articles I should read. I started with a different platform, but pivoted to an ADK agent deployed to GCP Agent Platform. Identical system prompt, different platform architecture, different LLM - completely different outcomes. This talk is a transparent look at what happens when agentic experiments meet reality, including an architectural runaway bug that burned 1M tokens per minute. We look past the hype and focus on the real engineering rigour required to build purposeful agents, with four key takeaways: * The Purpose Filter: Why does your agent care about this specific talk? If it’s not highly unique, you’re just automating noise. * Architecture > Hype: The gap between what you expect and what actually happens at runtime and why. * The Personalised Flywheel: High-signal distillation requires deep context about you, your team, and where you are in your journey. * Clear Goal Setting: Moving from “autonomous” to “purposeful”. In the replay demo I’ll walk through my flywheel showing how the agent filtered the content in real-time, picked up on tech I am interested in, turned it into an implementable spec, and how AI tools can close the loop to further automate the entire implementation, testing, and release cycle. Talk 2: Sahil Bahadur Devkota - Full Stack Developer Beyond LLMs: why RAG is equally important In this talk, I'll break down how RAG works, why is it really important in real-world and it's popular architectural pattern. We'll look at the core components of a RAG pipeline, discuss it's implementation approach, and cover some of the key things to think about when building an AI applications with RAG. Whether you're working with AI or building application that need accurate responses, you'll leave with a practical understanding of when RAG make sense - and when it doesn't. Talk 3: Abhijeet Kumar - AI & Automation | Cloud enthusiast Beyond RAG: Building an Agentic "Second Brain" with FastAPI, pgvector, and Gemini Move beyond static note-taking apps. This talk explores Project NeuralFortress—a custom, Python-built knowledge management system designed to actively synthesize information. We’ll walk through evolving a basic RAG script into an agentic pipeline using FastAPI for routing, Neon PostgreSQL (pgvector) for vector storage, and Google Gemini for cognitive processing. In Development (Sneak Peek): A brief look at experimental features currently in testing to make the system fully autonomous: GraphRAG: Mapping multi-hop relationships beyond standard vector distance. MCP Integration: Native database queries directly from your code editor. Async Watchers: Autonomous background web scraping and data ingestion. How to find us: Doors open at 5:45 PM at our host the Mantel Group, Level 2/452 Flinders St, Melbourne. Message via Meetup or Slack if you are arriving after 6:00, as the lifts won't let you up. This will also be Sanjana’s first public presentation, and we’re excited to welcome another new speaker to the Melbourne AWS community. *** **Intelligent Malware Protection Using AWS GuardDuty** Speaker: Bharat Wadhwa Level: 200 Format: Full Presentation This presentation showcases a cloud-native malware-protection solution for Amazon S3 using Amazon GuardDuty Malware Protection. The solution replaces legacy antivirus approaches with intelligent, event-driven malware detection and automated security workflows. Bharat will explore how this approach can improve scalability, operational efficiency, and security visibility across AWS environments. Bharat also began his public speaking journey at a Melbourne AWS User Group event and now returns with a full technical presentation. *** 🙌 Could This Be the Start of Your Speaking Journey? This month, Sanjana will take the stage for her first-ever public presentation. Bharat also began his speaking journey at a Melbourne AWS User Group meetup and is now returning with a full technical session. Every experienced speaker started with a first talk. Whether you have an idea for a full presentation, a lightning talk, or would like to help prepare and present the “What’s New in AWS” segment, the organisers are happy to help you take that first step. Your Career in the Age of AI — Sydney In-Person Meetup

## AI Is Rewriting the Rules of Work — Are You Ready? In 2026, AI-driven structural change is still accelerating. From tech giants to the Big Four banks, job demand across the Australian market is being redefined — some roles are disappearing, but many more new ones are being created. RAG Engineer, AI Product Manager, AI Agent Developer… roles that didn't exist before now appear on the hiring lists of major companies. Opportunity never waits. If you haven't figured out where you stand, you may already be falling behind without realising it. ### ✨ Why This Isn't Just Another AI Talk JR Academy is bringing something different to Sydney for Chinese-speaking students and working professionals — Not a "look how powerful AI is" trend talk. Not a course sales pitch. But a live, hands-on session for making your own career decisions in the age of AI. We want to help you answer three very specific questions: Where does my career stand right now? Where is my window of opportunity? What's my next move? The whole evening follows one clear throughline: **See the risks → Lock in the opportunities → Understand human-AI collaboration → Find your own path → Walk away with a 90-day action plan** ### 🕒 What You'll Actually Accomplish This Evening **💡 Start with a career "health check"** **🔥 A live "Career Risk Heatmap"** We'll aggregate everyone's assessment results on the big screen — how many people are in the high-risk zone, the questions causing the most anxiety, and which backgrounds are most concentrated. You'll see it clearly: you're far from the only one facing this. **💼 Real, actively hiring AI roles, broken down one by one** No vague trends — just the roles you can actually break into: what each role really does, who it suits, and the first skill to build. **🗣️ Guest Panel: What companies actually want** No taking turns reading slides — our guests will tackle the real questions head-on: * Should new grads build their fundamentals first, or jump straight into learning AI? * Is it too late for people from non-technical backgrounds to enter the AI field? * Do companies want "people who can use AI tools," or "people who can solve problems with AI"? ### 🎁 Meet the Guests Both guests bring deep, hands-on experience in their respective fields: **Lightman Wang** Founder of JR Academy and former Microsoft engineer. He has long provided recruitment advisory services to multiple unicorn companies and is deeply involved in talent development and career planning in the AI era. **Michelle** Currently Associate Director – Delivery Practice at Optus, with extensive experience in Business Analysis, project delivery, process optimisation, and enterprise-level digital transformation. She has worked at major organisations including Cisco, Optus, Deloitte Australia, and Westpac Group — spanning technology, telecommunications, consulting, and finance — bringing rich experience in enterprise project management, agile delivery, and cross-team collaboration. Michelle holds a Bachelor's in Computer Science from Wuhan University, an MBA from Melbourne Business School and CEIBS, and certifications including PMP, PMI-ACP, and SAFe Agilist. Both guests sit at the forefront of their industries — and they'll tell you, from a real hiring and team-building perspective, what AI talent companies are genuinely looking for. ### 🛤️ Find Your Own AI Career Path CS / Data / non-technical / upskilling while employed — whatever your background, there's an entry path for you, complete with concrete 90-day action recommendations. ### 💥 Live Career Diagnosis Hot Seat Our guests will give live feedback on 2 real participants' career situations. Even if you're not the one on the spot, you'll find yourself relating from the audience: *isn't that exactly me?* ### 🎁 Before You Leave: Your AI Career Action Pack It includes a career roadmap suited to you, a 90-day action checklist, resume / LinkedIn optimisation tips, a collection of standout quotes from the guests, and access to a 5-minute career direction consultation. ### 🧑‍💻 Who This Event Is For * **New grads job-hunting in Sydney** — sent out dozens of applications with no response, unsure what's missing * **Those 1–2 years out of graduation still without a relevant role** — lacking local experience, referrals, and direction * **Professionals with 1–5 years of experience** — worried about being sidelined by AI, wanting to upskill but unsure what to learn * **Career changers from non-technical backgrounds** — business, Data, BA, operations, marketing, and education backgrounds all welcome * **Prospective students still deciding** — wanting to see in person whether JR Academy is worth the investment ### 🏆 Three Things You'll Walk Away With **1\. Insider perspective on what companies really need 🔍** Our guests come straight from the industry frontline and have taken part in real company hiring. You'll hear things you can't usually access: * What HR actually looks for when scanning resumes, and which skills are most in demand * Which roles' hiring standards are quietly shifting * What AI talent traits companies value most * Which path into the AI field has the most potential, and how to break in quickly You won't find this content on any public platform — it only happens in this room, face-to-face with the guests. **2\. Real connections to grow your professional network 🤝** Among a group of people with similar backgrounds and shared goals, you'll have the chance to build genuine professional connections, meet people with referral resources, and grow a valuable network. **3\. A clear direction and an action plan to take with you 📅** By the time you leave, you'll know exactly what your next step is. This tailored career path and action checklist will be your guide moving forward. ### 🗓 Date & Time **Date:** Wednesday, 25 June 2026 **Time:** 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Sydney local time) ### 📍 Location University of Sydney (USYD) Belinda Hutchinson Building (H70) BHB Case Study Lecture Theatre · Room 1050(1 楼) **🙋🏼Form of activity** Chinese communication ### 📝 Register Now Limited to 100 seats.

Roller One Release Fate Done Nice on Cheersquad Records

ROLLER ONE CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF FATE DONE NICE WITH THE REMOTES AND THE VAN WALKER TRIO Melbourne/Naarm astral-country outfit Roller One will celebrate the release of their fourth album, Fate Done Nice, with a special showcase performance joined by fellow Melbourne music stalwarts The Remotes and The Van Walker Trio. Released through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, Fate Done Nice marks a new chapter for Roller One. Built around the songwriting of Fergus McAlpin and featuring Adam Afiff on double bass, the album reunites former Silver City Highway bandmates Simon Edwards and Nick Hurle, alongside contributions from Georgia Knight and Cahill Kelly. The result is a record that broadens the band's distinctive counter-country sound with greater drive, energy and sonic depth, while retaining the warmth and intimacy that has defined Roller One's music for more than fifteen years. Across Fate Done Nice, Roller One paint vivid scenes of suburban streets, city corners, racetrack totes and country landscapes. The songs exist as snapshots of memory, place and emotion rather than conventional narratives, creating a collection that feels both deeply personal and universally familiar. Written over many years and across locations ranging from the Dandenong Ranges to Cranbourne, Brunswick and Berlin, the album captures moments suspended in time, bound together by McAlpin's poetic eye and the band's expansive musical vision. Drawing comparisons to Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, Don Walker and Bill Callahan, Roller One's sound sits comfortably between country, Americana and indie folk. The singles "So Far", "Sparrow" and "Motorsports" offer a glimpse into the rich atmosphere, poetic songwriting and understated power that define Fate Done Nice. This special album launch is more than a celebration of a new release. It is also a gathering of three enduring voices from Melbourne and Australia's independent music community, artists whose collective histories span decades, countless stages and an extraordinary catalogue of recordings. Joining Roller One are The Remotes, whose long-awaited second album Ready For It arrived after a journey spanning continents and more than two decades. Originally formed by Ollie Browne and Kristian Brenchley and later joined by Laura MacFarlane, The Remotes blend dreamy indie-pop, baroque textures and poetic songwriting into music that feels timeless and deeply human. Their return has been marked by a series of acclaimed new recordings that bridge the gap between past and present. Opening the evening is The Van Walker Trio, led by one of Australia's most respected and prolific songwriters. From his early days with Swedish Magazines and Goatpiss Gasoline through to acclaimed solo albums including The Celestial Railroad and Ghosting, Van Walker has spent decades crafting songs that draw equally from folk, country, literature and the Australian landscape. Together, these three acts represent a remarkable cross-section of Melbourne's musical legacy. For audiences, the evening offers a rare opportunity to witness artists whose work has evolved across decades while continuing to create vital and compelling new music. For Roller One, it is the perfect way to launch Fate Done Nice — a record that honours the band's past while opening the door to its next chapter. ENDS
