Magic Mind & Peak Consciousness: Cultivating Psychic Abilities - Dr. Alex de Foe

**What if psychical abilities (psi) can be cultivated in earlier life?** What are the implications for modern society and our perception of the world? A new theory based on entropy and perception may hold the answers... After 70+ years of controlled studies into psychical phenomena, scholars still lack a cohesive theory of what makes them possible.... **In this presentation, Dr Alex De Foe** draws on his 15+ years of research to model psi as an emergent lifespan experience - understanding it in relation to neural development and entropy, experiences often reported by children. Drawing upon the "free energy model" in perception and social neuroscience, Alex will make the case for cultivation of psi in pivotal states of consciousness. Part 2 will focus on experiential analysis to support the argument, including case studies and a short practice task called 'Image Streaming' that engages aspects of the mind at the periphery of experience. **Image Streaming** is a technique that bridges the divide between the conscious, unconscious, and super-conscious mind, related to Michael Thalbourne's concept of 'transliminality', in which material flows between these dimensions of mind seamlessly. **Case studies will be presented from:** * Research into out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and lucid dreams * A new theory on archetypes and the collective unconscious * Speculative accounts at the bridge between spiritual emergence and spiritual 'emergency' **About Dr. Alexander De Foe (PhD, M Couns):** * Academic at Monash University (2021-2026). * Runs a research program on mindfulness/consciousness * At RMIT University (2016-2021), he managed a virtual reality lab focusing on embodied cognition and social neuroscience. * Published over 30 peer-reviewed studies/papers on consciousness, perception, and general psychology. * Chair of the Australian Centre for Consciousness Studies * Committee Member of the Australian Institute of Parapsychological Research * Associate Editor at the Anthropology of Consciousness Journal. **Post-Event Social Lunch Hangout (12.45 - 1.45pm)** NOTE: TRYING OUT NEW LUNCH VENUE... Afterwards, you are invited to lunch with everyone at **Gopal's Restaurant** (5min walk from the venue) **PLEASE NOTE:** * **11AM Start -** Please be considerate and arrive early. * **$10 Cover Charge:** Room hire, facilities, and running costs.

Community Assembly - AI & Data Centres

Artificial intelligence and data centres are reshaping how we live, work, and use energy. Right now, the Federal Government is asking for input to influence how this important technology shapes our future. This is a real opportunity for community voices to reach the people making decisions about our collective future. The problem is that formal consultation processes can feel inaccessible; full of technical jargon, unclear on process, and easy to scroll past. That's exactly why we're running this community assembly. Rather than feeling overwhelmed or just venting into the void, come and do something about it. This is a free, volunteer-run, in-person session designed to give you: * Context — a plain-English overview of the inquiry and what's at stake for our communities, environment, and economy * Space — a safe, welcoming environment for open discussion, whatever your background or level of expertise * Support — practical guidance to help you formulate and submit your own perspective directly to the inquiry.
No technical expertise required. Just curiosity and a willingness to have your say. We believe that diverse perspectives lead to richer outcomes, and on something as consequential as AI and data centres, we need as many of them as possible! Come and help shape a future we can all look forward to. Register here for a free ticket: https://events.humanitix.com/community-assembly-ai-and-data-centres

The Sacred Pause - A Winter Solstice Ceremony

Winter solstice is the longest night of the year. The moment the earth stands still before the light begins its slow and gentle return. And this year the solstice arrives under a waning crescent moon - one of the most potent times in the lunar cycle for surrender and deep inner reflection. The waning crescent whispers to us to let go. To clear what no longer belongs. To make space for what is coming. This is not a coincidence. This is an invitation. Award winning Reiki Master 2025 Suzi (from Healing Moods) and Voice for Spirit Connie Rose are coming together to hold this sacred space for you. Two hours of deep nourishment for your mind, body and spirit at this powerful convergence of solstice and lunar energy. Together we will move through: Yoga nidra to bring you into a place of deep rest and surrender. A group deep healing reset with Reiki and Seichim to restore and realign your energy field. Intuitive movement to allow your body to express and release what words cannot. Spirit connection to open you to messages of love and guidance from those who walk beside you. Sacred space to rest, receive and come back to yourself. Come and be held as the darkness gives way to the returning light. Open to all. No experience necessary. Simply bring yourself and an open heart. Winter is asking you to stop. We are holding the space for you to actually do it. Spaces are strictly limited. - only 10 spaces Bring a friend for a discount x Book Now: [https://events.humanitix.com/the-sacred-pause-a-winter-solstice-ceremony/tickets](https://events.humanitix.com/the-sacred-pause-a-winter-solstice-ceremony/tickets?fbclid=IwY2xjawSYUbRleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETExT0dMZGkySWgyM3BmMTY4c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHhfiSLMQ9qziil5t_l-tnBoj3C79oNqyM4YBz_xRmX5zCQzB3qYt1vWciOrU_aem_HlQp65Lmp89iQMop-d4F_Q)

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

The winter solstice marks a threshold moment. Cultures have gathered for eons to recognise cosmic events, not because we are promised some radical transformation, but because shared ritual cultivates fertile ground for a meaningful life through reflection, connection and growth. Rituals help us digest change, build resilience, and experience and express that which may not be so accessible in our day-to-day lives. This winter solstice day retreat is an opportunity to pause, reflect and explore what it means to loosen your grip, release a little clinging and grasping to open to a quality of presence with a little less of the magnetism of attachment. The longest night calls for an acknowledgement of darkness. Through recognition and ritual, we will embrace the darkness as part of the natural cycle of life, welcoming the perspectives it offers before orienting ourselves towards the illumination of the renewing sun. Through Asana, Kriya, Japa mantra and meditation, we will spiral inwards, using practices to encourage self-inquiry, release and mark transitions to more fully experience our own lives. **What to Expect** Cultivate tapas through asana. Cleanse and release with kriya. Reflect and integrate through journaling. Explore the potency of japa mantra. Soften and renew with meditation. Warming, nourishing vegan food, and time to connect and rest. **What to Bring** Bring a journal and pen. Come dressed in comfortable, layered clothing suited to movement and stillness. Mats, cushions and blankets are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own. *Cautions* If you are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have any other significant medical condition, please be in touch with Jessie before you book - 0477 166 867 [BOOK HERE](https://momence.com/l/R5hJnoAd)

Philosophy Roundtable: Art

A painting that brings a person to tears. A banana worth 6.4 million dollars. A photograph ending a war. What is behind these phenomena? Please join us this Sunday to discuss the Philosophy of Art, where it comes from, what makes it powerful and why it is a universal across time and cultures. We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp. **Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee** (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs, venue costs, etc. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group. We will explore the topic through a range of questions, including: **What is Art?** * What comes to mind when we use the word ‘Art’? What are the categories of objects or activities that you would consider to be art? * Which of these are art?: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1_1nl2_GKbGzzSbXsRRsnAZlkmNVqWPjm **Emotion** * Is art a luxury or necessity in life? Is it essential to happiness? * Why is art so effective at making us feel powerful emotions, even when we know it doesn’t represent reality? Are these ‘true’ emotions, or somehow different / simulated? * Why do we sometimes seek our art that makes us feel sad? **Objectivity** * Is there such a thing as objectively bad art? * Are there intrinsic properties that make something aesthetic (beautiful)? Are they universal? * Are there objective standards of ‘taste’? Can one person be said to have better taste than another? If so, on what basis or criteria? **Value** * What gives art its value? Why do we consider replicas differently? Is naturally occurring beauty different to art? * What compels humans towards art? Is there an evolutionary / biological explanation for the seemingly wasteful expenditure of resources on outputs that have no practical function? **Creativity** * Are only humans able to appreciate art? * Are only humans creative? * Is there such a thing as something truly new, or is every idea or expression a recombination of existing inputs into a different configuration of outputs? * Can a machine be creative? If not, what is the constraint? * Could we ever regard AI-creativity in the same way as that of a human? Hope to see you there!

If you can’t find us, just send us a message here on Meetup. We’ll keep an eye on it. ⏱️ **Meeting Time:** **2:00 PM** Try to get there a bit early if you can. Public transport can be unpredictable, and we want to start on time without holding everyone up. 🏁 **End Point:** **Cronulla Train Station** From there, you can head home, or stick around for gelato with the group. 🥾 **Distance & Level:** **8 km / Easy** It’s a super relaxed, mostly flat walk. Perfect if you want something low-effort but still feel good after. 🎒 **What to bring:** Water refill stations are along the route, so just bring a bottle. Wear something comfortable. Hat and sunscreen depending on the weather. **See you on the trail! xx** \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **Want to learn more about Her Collective Space?** Follow us on Instagram: [@hercollectivespace](http://www.instagram.com/hercollectivespace/)

After the game, we need a team effort to pack up the equipment and to carry it back to the car. If you are not prepared to help, please do not join us. We only want team players, not selfish people. **Waitlists:** If your name is on the Waitlist, you do **NOT** have a spot. **A spot** **may become available to you up until midday** (even later) on the day of the event. Waitlists/allocated spots are now **discretionary** and not in order of response. This is to assist running the event as smoothly as possible for the organiser and the players & also to reward loyalty (members and regular players and those who turn up on time). **No-shows:** No shows are disrespectful towards the organiser and the other players (especially those on the waitlist) and will now be given 2 chances/warnings and banned on their 3rd "no-show". This includes yourself and any +1 guests you have reserved a spot for. To avoid a no-show, make sure you **update your RSVP before 9am** of the morning of the meetup (i.e. Sunday morning 9am). **This also applies to those on the Waitlist**. If you are on the waitlist, there is a chance you will be moved to the "Going" list, so if you will no longer attend, ensure you change your RSVP to "Not going" by 9am (day of event). **Questions:** If you have any questions, please ask. Note that the organiser(s) may be busy in the hours leading up to the event, so if you have any questions, please ask them early enough. Note that if your question has been addressed in this description and you simply have not bothered to read it, you may not get a response. And of course you won't know that if you haven't read this, but then who's fault is that? If this all makes sense and you agree, come join us for some good wholesome fun. See you at the park! **Location:** We play in the large flat open area opposite the Kiosk/Cafe (with toilets) and children's playground. These maps should help: * [Photo/map](https://www.meetup.com/volleyball-at-sydney-park/photos/33390251/512713637/) * [Google Maps](https://maps.app.goo.gl/8KHnSEGbQXHrHKnBA) By attending any of our events, you and your guests agree to our [Terms & Conditions](https://www.meetup.com/volleyball-at-sydney-park/photos/34863764/523484638/).

What is Art For? On Emotion, Aesthetics and Creativity

This event is also posted to the Philosophy Circle group.

Coffee & Connections: Topic Finding Art Space

Hi everyone, and welcome to our very first event! Since I’ve traveled to 50 countries before settling here in Melbourne, the idea of combining travel, daily living, and creating art is a massive passion of mine. To kick off our community of "dreamers and doers," we are hosting a relaxed weekend coffee meetup to connect, share, and get inspired. Whether you are a full-time professional artist or an entrepreneur exploring painting like I am, this is a casual space to meet face-to-face and build our local network over a great cup of Melbourne coffee. **Here is what we’ll be doing:** * 🎨 **Show & Tell:** Bring a sketchbook, your iPad, or just pull up some photos of your work on your phone. Let's celebrate what everyone is currently creating or exploring! * 🤝 **Network & Connect:** Swap Instagram handles, share industry contacts, and find your new creative accountability buddies. * 🌍 **Main Topic - Art Residencies & Coliving:** Have you ever done an art residency? Are you dreaming of joining a creative coliving space overseas or right here in Australia? Let's share resources, research, and dreams about blending travel with our artistic practices. **What to bring:** * A piece of your art (physical or digital) or a work-in-progress to share. * Your business cards, portfolio links, or social handles. * Any info, questions, or experiences you have regarding art residencies! I can't wait to meet you all and hear about your creative journeys. RSVP so I can make sure we grab a big enough table!

It brings together elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong to create a sport that’s fun for all ages and skill levels, but gets fast-paced and exhilarating at competitive levels. How is pickleball different to other net sports? * It’s easier to pick up than many net sports * It’s lower impact than tennis, so it’s easier on the body * It focuses on quick reflexes and aiming, rather than spiking the ball, powerful serves, or running speed These differences open pickleball up to a greater range of players. Whether you’ve been playing tennis your whole life, or you’re walking onto a court for the first time; whether you’re young, old, or in between; whether you’re strategic and competitive, or just want to get involved in something fun, social, or active… pickleball is for you.

Sunday Meditation | Community Building | Connection | Meet New People

**Who We are..... 🤝** Our journey to bring people together began in January of 2022. The group was started with a simple intention to gather and meet some likeminded people - connecting through the powerful act of meditation and sharing our genuine selves while sitting in a circle that represents equality, harmony and wholeness( *we believe everyone in the circle is a teacher and a student at the same time)*. And over the last 4 years of consistently coming together, we have fostered a beautiful, loving, dependable community where members from all walks of life have experienced a sacred space to sit in silence together and meditate, share their authentic selves, give presence to others and forge meaningful and long lasting connections. The Meditations are guided by Sana(co-founder and host), who is a Trained and certified meditation teacher by the Meditation Association of Australia, and has been guiding meditations for 3+ years in corporate and community settings. ✨ **Do you wish to....** * Experience a simple yet powerful meditation and breathing practice to find calm, relaxation and clarity * Connect with like-minded people in your local community and foster meaningful connections * Meet others who are passionate about growing, uplifting themselves, and supporting others * Share insights from your personal journey (or simply listen and learn) Or maybe you just want to... ☮️ **Spend your Sunday evening in a peaceful, zen space and meet new people? Bring a friend (or two!) and let’s connect.** **What’s on the evening’s flow?** * **Open meet & greet** – connect and settle in * **5 min guided meditation** to land into the space and connect within * **Sharing circle** (totally optional!) – share your thoughts or simply listen * **20-30 min guided meditation** – for relaxation and deeper connection **Where?** 📍 **250 George St, Fitzroy VIC 3065** Enter through the church gates. You’ll see a small garden on the left and stairs on the right leading up to the **Dance of Life Yoga Studio (first door on your right upstairs).** **What to bring?** * **Donation:** A contribution of **$15 or more is recommended**. Your donations directly help us cover venue, meetup membership and other costs, provide valuable resources, and keep this meditation community alive and growing. * **Warm jumper/jacket** (just in case!) * **Water** * **Any books/resources/inspiration you’d love to share** **Important Notes:** * Spaces are **limited**, so if you can’t make it, please update your RSVP to “Not going” or send us a quick message. * **No-show policy:** To keep it fair for everyone, repeat no-shows without notice may not be able to RSVP in the future. * Attendees under 18 must have a guardian present. **Everyone is welcome!** All ages (with guardians for under 18), backgrounds, genders, and experiences – no meditation experience needed. School of life - Sydney fan meetup, difficult questions deck

This event is in person! To find the room, walk into the car parking area from the street at 14 Frances St, walk to the end of the car park (to the left of the building) and enter in the side pedestrian gate. Walk straight down the pathway to the back building and up the stairs. Look for the signs to Skyview Hall! As part of the school of life Sydney meetup we host a discussion focused on the difficult questions deck. We flip a difficult question and then ask the group to answer. Some examples include, "what makes a good listener?" and "if you could own any piece of art, what would it be?", "who was a childhood role model other than your parents?" Join us for questions like these and more. We hope to have you join us in this journey of self discovery. If you’re reading this, you’re invited. Please don’t feel like you “won’t be welcome” just because you’re new, demographically different from the average member, or hate the School of Life and everything it stands for. You’ll be fine! We usually meet every 3rd Sunday of the month at 4pm. 0438481143 to contact us if you get lost. This event is free for first time participants, then $10 if you are coming back for more! The cost covers the room hire, snacks and helps with making sure people are committed to attending. If you struggle to pay the cost, please get in touch to talk about it. You can also pay via Payid to 0438481143

Soulful Mantra Meditation Evening

**We invite you to The Mantra Room, a friendly community sharing spiritual practice of Mantra Meditation, Kirtan & Wisdom & Vegan Meal.** **\~\~** “Mantra” means transcendental sound vibration, sound which transcends the material world. It does not originate in the material world; it originates in the Spiritual World and descends to the material platform without losing any spiritual potency. By the simple process of mantra meditation, our mind and heart are gradually purified of all kinds of stress, worry, misconceptions and deep-seated fears etc. We begin to experience an ever-deepening inner peace and happiness and increasing insights into life. The easiest way of meditating on the mantras is by singing in a group accompanied with musical instruments , which is also known as Kirtan. Rather than being a type of performance, Kirtan is a journey of self discovery. It nourishes our deepest needs for inner peace, happiness, freedom from fear & spiritual love. Be a part of an immersive and interactive mantra meditation experience and join many other like minded people that come to Brisbane’s home of Kirtan [The Mantra Room](https://www.facebook.com/TheMantraRoom.Brisbane)! Everyone is welcome, whether you regularly engage in meditation or never before we encourage you to come along for a special night of chanting. Includes Community Veg/Vegan meal. Volunteering and Donations in supporting these events are greatly appreciated. Namaste! The Mantra Room Volunteers♥
