Whale Hike! Cronulla, Captain Cook's Landing, Kamay Nat'l Park to a GREAT PUB!!!

**Cronulla, Kurnell, and "[Cook at Kurnell"](https://www.cookatkurnell.com.au/) (pub)** is part of Sydney not many have been to. Trust me, this hike is one you'll want to do. With the whales coming north, the cliff faces are the perfect viewing point(s) in June. If you've come on our Macmasters Beach to Killcare Beach & **Hardy’s Hideaway Pub** it’s in a similar spirit. If you missed it? Here’s your second chance at a memorable session... **Cronulla Beach to Kurnell / Kamay Botany National Park to the site of Captain Cook’s Landing to… “Cook at Kurnell”** for food and drinks. It's a 14.86kms hike. Imagine this: *“Hey Davo. Grandpa died. He left us the beach property. Let’s put some booze and beer kegs into his VW van and make a service window. And let’s empty out his trailer and put a kitchen in it. We’ll add picnic tables, umbrellas, live music and open a beach bar called Cook at Kurnell.”* Who knows if that's true. But **Cook at Kurnell** is exactly that kind of joint… **I’ve been to the bar – love it. I’ve done an hour hike to Kurnell – love it. And I love the Tozzi family who owns it.** **So? Grab my arm, and join me.** **[JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/FZiGipXk9kY5mqLh49wGa2)**[.](https://chat.whatsapp.com/C2OLdpsxYQo3Y88VDZlUvI) Team, please stop here. After you hit attend, come back to the event page - click on the link, and join the whatsapp group. It's a must for this event. **THE DETAILS:** **Driving?** 950am Find free parking at Greenhills Outdoor Basketball Court. [MAP](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Greenhills+Outdoor+Basketball+Court/@-34.0410587,151.1619584,18.4z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x6b12b7efeb0b90db:0xa5dae16610e8dcb7!8m2!3d-34.0409667!4d151.1622065!16s%2Fg%2F11k0sl0ngh?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDUyMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) 951am to 10am You'll see those that took the train arrive from the bus. **1010am Hike starts!!!** **Public Transport?** 987 bus leaves from Cronulla Station at 945am, dropping at our hike start at 951am. **Do NOT miss that bus.** I'll meet you all at Cronulla Station at 940am. Find me. Trains arrive every 10minutes. Coffee and bathrooms are right there. Bus to the starting point. **1010am Hike Starts!** **After the pub finish, 987 bus is right by Cook @ Kurnell that drops:** a) Close to the basketball courts (for drivers); b) Drops us train riders back at Cronulla Station. Easy! Winding through **Cronulla dunes** **and onto the beach** we’ll elevate into **Kamay Botany National Park**… I’m not going to write a lot about it. It’s absolutely beautiful. Cliffs. Ocean. Views. It’s 10/10 (look at the pics from the last hike). It’s medium-hard with some uphill bits but nothing crazy difficult. 14.5kms so be fit, healthy, and bring some good energy and thirst for a beer or two. See you for an epic hike and pub! MJ **______________________________________________________** **THE DETAILS.** **WHATSAPP.** You’re not 100% confirmed until you’re in the whatsapp group. Join it 'cause we love it, and we use it! Click on the link (above) – if not, sadly you’ll be removed from the event on MeetUP. **Cancels / No shows.** Treat your RSVP like a restaurant reservation. *No show / cancel on the day?* That restaurant is my hiking group – you won’t be welcomed in the future. Respect and manners matter as I put my credit card down for your reservation. Double booked with another group? Come on… be kind. **Gratuity.** $10 PayID or Cash. **Safety.** Let’s chat, let’s have some laughs… but let’s be safe. **Fitness.** Yup. Fitness matters for all of our hikes – especially if we are going into National Park. **Guests.** Bring mates, dates, co-workers. **Good energy, smiles, and laughs…** Bring ‘em all! In Kind

inkind Helps You to Make Plans for Friendship Brisbane-based folk duo inkind are set to release their second single ‘Lets Make Plans' on the 21st June at Brisbane’s iconic Junk Bar. Through songs of life lived and lessons learned, inkind encourage us to look after ourselves and one another. A heartfelt musical collaboration by Erin & Nate; two seasoned singer-songwriters who each continue to carve their own path across the Australian music landscape (as Miss Elm and Conspiracy of One respectively), brought together by a shared love of storytelling and human connection, their songs weave together themes of compassion, empathy and growth with a wicked sense of humour. 2025 saw some big milestones with the band as they released their debut single ‘Feels Like Home’ to a sell out house concert, received acclaim for their performances at Woodford Folk Club and reached the semi-finals in Listen Up Music’s Songwriting Prize, the Australian Songwriters Association’s songwriting awards and the International Songwriting Competition. In 2026, both singles (and other songs) are to be heard in the newly released feature film ‘All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane’ the sequel to the cult classic ‘All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane’ released in 2007. The duo’s songs provide a welcome audible backdrop to key moments in the new film. ‘Let's Make Plans’, produced by Samuel Ayling (a.k.a. This New Light) in his charming sunshine coast studio drops the listener into a feeling of warm fuzzies with hopeful acoustic guitars, earthy violin & banjo and the meditative harmonies inkind are beginning to be known for. It evokes a feeling of inspired action with apologetic lyrics in the chorus such as ‘lets make plans, let’s do all the things we said’ and ‘sorry I forgot to call… my schedule’s like a waterfall’. The memorable melodies of the track remain long after listening, planting the reminder that it’s never too late to catch up with a friend. inkind will be encouraging new found fans to ‘make plans’ to connect in person at their live single launch 21st June at Brisbane’s cosy Junk Bar supported by singer-songwritier Maddison Kate. About Maddison; Brisbane-based Maddison Kate has an enchanting voice, singing the songs of old souls. She writes delicately braided lyrics that explore truths of the human experience and aims to build connection with others through her introspective Follow inkind below: https://www.instagram.com/inkindfolk https://www.facebook.com/inkindfolk Contact: inkindfolk@gmail.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@inkindfolk https://inkindfolk.bandcamp.com/track/feels-like-home

Music in Exile Winter Fundraiser

Amongst the colder swirls, we’re bringing together a colourful mix of Music in Exile alumni along with local friends for an EOFY fundraiser from 2 til 9pm at the Evelyn in Fitzroy. We’ve a stacked lineup of live performances, DJs, and a raffle draw somewhere in the mix ~ all raising funds to support our varied, artist-centred activities that carve space and sustainable futures for artists living through the stories of diaspora and displacement. With live performances from: Ajak Kwai Alcides Neto Maryam Rahman Ashkan Shafiei Shewit Brenda Jacky Winter If you’re keen to support by lending a hand on the day, contributing to the raffle draw, or if you’ve some more creative ideas, please send us a message on the website! — This is an all-ages event, and kids under 12 are free, however must be accompanied by an adult. The Evelyn is wheelchair accessible — access for wheelchair users is via Kerr & Brunswick Street. Please see the security staff or call the venue in advance on 9419 5500 for entry if you need a hand! Please note that the toilets are currently ambulant but not accessible. This event takes place on the unceded sovereign lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We offer deep respect and gratitude to their elders, past and present. Storytelling, listening and exchange have long existed here, and enduring Indigenous connections to these lands, skies and waters are sacred and exemplary. It always was, and always will be Aboriginal Land.

Philosophy Roundtable: Art

A painting that brings a person to tears. A banana worth 6.4 million dollars. A photograph ending a war. What is behind these phenomena? Please join us this Sunday to discuss the Philosophy of Art, where it comes from, what makes it powerful and why it is a universal across time and cultures. We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp. **Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee** (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs, venue costs, etc. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group. We will explore the topic through a range of questions, including: **What is Art?** * What comes to mind when we use the word ‘Art’? What are the categories of objects or activities that you would consider to be art? * Which of these are art?: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1_1nl2_GKbGzzSbXsRRsnAZlkmNVqWPjm **Emotion** * Is art a luxury or necessity in life? Is it essential to happiness? * Why is art so effective at making us feel powerful emotions, even when we know it doesn’t represent reality? Are these ‘true’ emotions, or somehow different / simulated? * Why do we sometimes seek our art that makes us feel sad? **Objectivity** * Is there such a thing as objectively bad art? * Are there intrinsic properties that make something aesthetic (beautiful)? Are they universal? * Are there objective standards of ‘taste’? Can one person be said to have better taste than another? If so, on what basis or criteria? **Value** * What gives art its value? Why do we consider replicas differently? Is naturally occurring beauty different to art? * What compels humans towards art? Is there an evolutionary / biological explanation for the seemingly wasteful expenditure of resources on outputs that have no practical function? **Creativity** * Are only humans able to appreciate art? * Are only humans creative? * Is there such a thing as something truly new, or is every idea or expression a recombination of existing inputs into a different configuration of outputs? * Can a machine be creative? If not, what is the constraint? * Could we ever regard AI-creativity in the same way as that of a human? Hope to see you there!
