Winter Solstice Day Retreat

Winter Solstice Day Retreat

The winter solstice marks a threshold moment. Cultures have gathered for eons to recognise cosmic events, not because we are promised some radical transformation, but because shared ritual cultivates fertile ground for a meaningful life through reflection, connection and growth. Rituals help us digest change, build resilience, and experience and express that which may not be so accessible in our day-to-day lives. This winter solstice day retreat is an opportunity to pause, reflect and explore what it means to loosen your grip, release a little clinging and grasping to open to a quality of presence with a little less of the magnetism of attachment. The longest night calls for an acknowledgement of darkness. Through recognition and ritual, we will embrace the darkness as part of the natural cycle of life, welcoming the perspectives it offers before orienting ourselves towards the illumination of the renewing sun. Through Asana, Kriya, Japa mantra and meditation, we will spiral inwards, using practices to encourage self-inquiry, release and mark transitions to more fully experience our own lives. **What to Expect** Cultivate tapas through asana. Cleanse and release with kriya. Reflect and integrate through journaling. Explore the potency of japa mantra. Soften and renew with meditation. Warming, nourishing vegan food, and time to connect and rest. **What to Bring** Bring a journal and pen. Come dressed in comfortable, layered clothing suited to movement and stillness. Mats, cushions and blankets are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own. *Cautions* If you are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have any other significant medical condition, please be in touch with Jessie before you book - 0477 166 867 [BOOK HERE](https://momence.com/l/R5hJnoAd)

NeuroSparks Social Meetup!!!

Hi all, us at NeuroSparks are having another fortnightly meeting and we'd love to see you there! When: Sunday 21st of June from 12:30-3:30PM. Where: we will be meeting at the Majorca Room at the City Library. Access to the room is via a lift or steps in the foyer. The City Library is located at 253 Flinders Lane, right next to Flinders Street/Town Hall Station. This social gathering will be for those looking to connect with others in the community. It'll be a very casual setting, where everyone can be themselves and can and go when they feel like it. There will be limited structure, as this event is intended to be like the casual free form mingling of our picnic events. For anyone wanting to continue socialising after the room booking ends, we encourage you to get out and hit the town together! People are welcome to bring food/drinks to the event. Conveniently for us, there is a cafe on the library's ground floor and there are many cafes also nearby! But for the sake of continuing to use the venue, please tidy up after yourself. This event is open to all neurodivergent people and anyone who values a friendly, inclusive space. Many attendees come on their own, so if you’re feeling a bit hesitant, know you’ll be in good company and warmly welcomed. If the group/noise feels too overwhelming at any point, there is a silent study room next door to decompress in. If you struggling to interact with the group, just let one of friendly organisers know and we will be able to help you out! If at any point you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about any group member, please notify one of the organisers. For the purposes of not overwhelming attendees, we will be capping RSVPs at 50 people maximum. If you have RSVP’d and can no longer attend, please cancel your booking, to allow others to attend. If you sign up for the waitlist and Meetup prompts you to pay, please ignore this, as this event is not intended to be paid for. Looking forward to seeing all of you there! Disclaimer & Safety Notice By attending this Meetup, you agree: • Participation is voluntary and at your own risk. • Organisers are community volunteers, not medical or professional providers. • You are responsible for your own safety, choices, and belongings. • Organisers are not liable for injury, loss, or damage at any time. • If you have health or access needs, please make your own arrangements. • In an emergency, call 000 immediately. Philosophy Roundtable: Art

A painting that brings a person to tears. A banana worth 6.4 million dollars. A photograph ending a war. What is behind these phenomena? Please join us this Sunday to discuss the Philosophy of Art, where it comes from, what makes it powerful and why it is a universal across time and cultures. We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp. **Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee** (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs, venue costs, etc. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group. We will explore the topic through a range of questions, including: **What is Art?** * What comes to mind when we use the word ‘Art’? What are the categories of objects or activities that you would consider to be art? * Which of these are art?: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1_1nl2_GKbGzzSbXsRRsnAZlkmNVqWPjm **Emotion** * Is art a luxury or necessity in life? Is it essential to happiness? * Why is art so effective at making us feel powerful emotions, even when we know it doesn’t represent reality? Are these ‘true’ emotions, or somehow different / simulated? * Why do we sometimes seek our art that makes us feel sad? **Objectivity** * Is there such a thing as objectively bad art? * Are there intrinsic properties that make something aesthetic (beautiful)? Are they universal? * Are there objective standards of ‘taste’? Can one person be said to have better taste than another? If so, on what basis or criteria? **Value** * What gives art its value? Why do we consider replicas differently? Is naturally occurring beauty different to art? * What compels humans towards art? Is there an evolutionary / biological explanation for the seemingly wasteful expenditure of resources on outputs that have no practical function? **Creativity** * Are only humans able to appreciate art? * Are only humans creative? * Is there such a thing as something truly new, or is every idea or expression a recombination of existing inputs into a different configuration of outputs? * Can a machine be creative? If not, what is the constraint? * Could we ever regard AI-creativity in the same way as that of a human? Hope to see you there!

Coffee & Connections: Topic Finding Art Space

Hi everyone, and welcome to our very first event! Since I’ve traveled to 50 countries before settling here in Melbourne, the idea of combining travel, daily living, and creating art is a massive passion of mine. To kick off our community of "dreamers and doers," we are hosting a relaxed weekend coffee meetup to connect, share, and get inspired. Whether you are a full-time professional artist or an entrepreneur exploring painting like I am, this is a casual space to meet face-to-face and build our local network over a great cup of Melbourne coffee. **Here is what we’ll be doing:** * 🎨 **Show & Tell:** Bring a sketchbook, your iPad, or just pull up some photos of your work on your phone. Let's celebrate what everyone is currently creating or exploring! * 🤝 **Network & Connect:** Swap Instagram handles, share industry contacts, and find your new creative accountability buddies. * 🌍 **Main Topic - Art Residencies & Coliving:** Have you ever done an art residency? Are you dreaming of joining a creative coliving space overseas or right here in Australia? Let's share resources, research, and dreams about blending travel with our artistic practices. **What to bring:** * A piece of your art (physical or digital) or a work-in-progress to share. * Your business cards, portfolio links, or social handles. * Any info, questions, or experiences you have regarding art residencies! I can't wait to meet you all and hear about your creative journeys. RSVP so I can make sure we grab a big enough table!

School of life - Sydney fan meetup, difficult questions deck

This event is in person! To find the room, walk into the car parking area from the street at 14 Frances St, walk to the end of the car park (to the left of the building) and enter in the side pedestrian gate. Walk straight down the pathway to the back building and up the stairs. Look for the signs to Skyview Hall! As part of the school of life Sydney meetup we host a discussion focused on the difficult questions deck. We flip a difficult question and then ask the group to answer. Some examples include, "what makes a good listener?" and "if you could own any piece of art, what would it be?", "who was a childhood role model other than your parents?" Join us for questions like these and more. We hope to have you join us in this journey of self discovery. If you’re reading this, you’re invited. Please don’t feel like you “won’t be welcome” just because you’re new, demographically different from the average member, or hate the School of Life and everything it stands for. You’ll be fine! We usually meet every 3rd Sunday of the month at 4pm. 0438481143 to contact us if you get lost. This event is free for first time participants, then $10 if you are coming back for more! The cost covers the room hire, snacks and helps with making sure people are committed to attending. If you struggle to pay the cost, please get in touch to talk about it. You can also pay via Payid to 0438481143

These circles are open to anyone curious about Reiki or anyone in need of a deeply relaxing experience and a chance to throw something into the fire to let it go. Ronnie will lead you through an easy to follow meditation while her team of Reiki Students and practitioners give Reiki to everyone in the circle. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the relaxing, nurturing, balancing energy of Reiki. Reiki Master/Teacher Ronnie Maree will use her years of experience with circle work, meditation and Reiki to hold a safe supportive space for you to breathe, relax, expand and connect to create a moment in time to let go of something old and bring new dreams into your life. Choose something you want to let go of, by writing a few words down on a piece of paper to burn in the candle flame. We also write down things we want to bring into our lives. Arrive from 5.45pm ready to start the circle at 6.00pm. Stay on for Pizza and drinks from 7pm for great conversations with a friendly group of people. Feel free to enjoy a wine if you like. $20 donation on entry would be gratefully appreciated if you would like to enjoy some pizza or make a smaller donation if you can bring something to share for supper 🙏🏻 Ronnie embraces all forms of supportive energy work and invites other practitioners to support her in the circle work in their own way, so please let me know if you just want to receive, or if you would like to help. Address supplied when your seat is confirmed: click GOING then MESSAGE Ronnie on 0408050724. This event is also promoted on Noosa Reiki Community on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/share/1EQ4rbDRWm/?mibextid=wwXIfr

First Event!!! ($10 for first 5people) Mochitsuki & Japanese BBQ

🍡 Pounding & Grilling: Authentic Japanese Mochitsuki & BBQ! 🪵🔥 Hey everyone! 👋 THIS IS THE OFFICIALLY FIRST EVENT, COULD YOU MAKE HISTORY WITH ME? Have you ever seen those amazing viral videos of traditional master mochi pounders in Japan? The high energy, the rhythmic shouting, and that unbelievably soft, stretchy rice dough? I am incredibly passionate about sharing real Japanese food culture and traditions, and I realized something... almost nobody gets to experience authentic Mochitsuki (traditional live mochi pounding) here in Sydney! So, I’m throwing a casual community BBQ and picnic, and I am bringing along a handcrafted, wood mortar (usu) and wooden mallets (kine) so we can do the real thing together! Whether you are a Japanese expat missing home, a massive foodie, or just curious to try something completely unique, you are incredibly welcome to join our circle. 💰 The Cost: **$20** per person. (it will be **$25** from next time) 🐧🐤🐴🦆\*\*$10\*\* for first 5 people How to pay: Please transfer the $20 to my PayID when you RSVP so I know exactly how many ingredients to buy at the supermarket. ⚠️ **Minimum Group Size: We need a minimum of “5”people confirmed for this event to go ahead. Master the Art of Better Decisions

This interactive session equips you with practical tools to enhance Emotional Intelligence (EI), manage cognitive biases and make better decisions by mastering System 1 (emotional reactivity) and System 2 (logical analysis) thinking where EI serves as the vital bridge between the two. By attending this session you will unlock: * Improved decision making: Reduce the "hidden tax" of cognitive shortcuts. Know when to trust our 'gut feelings' and when to switch to rational thought. * Greater performance under pressure: Learn to recognise triggers and pivot from reactive impulses to deliberate, strategic choices when the stakes are high. * Better collaboration: When you regulate your own System 1 responses, psychological safety flourishes, which leads to better collaboration. * Increased resilience: Build a team that doesn’t just survive volatility but thrives in it. ***Facilitators*** ***[Caidryn Roder](https://www.linkedin.com/in/caidyrn/):*** *Co-founded ProSocia and has over 20 years of experience helping people and organisations thrive.
