In Kind

inkind Helps You to Make Plans for Friendship Brisbane-based folk duo inkind are set to release their second single ‘Lets Make Plans' on the 21st June at Brisbane’s iconic Junk Bar. Through songs of life lived and lessons learned, inkind encourage us to look after ourselves and one another. A heartfelt musical collaboration by Erin & Nate; two seasoned singer-songwriters who each continue to carve their own path across the Australian music landscape (as Miss Elm and Conspiracy of One respectively), brought together by a shared love of storytelling and human connection, their songs weave together themes of compassion, empathy and growth with a wicked sense of humour. 2025 saw some big milestones with the band as they released their debut single ‘Feels Like Home’ to a sell out house concert, received acclaim for their performances at Woodford Folk Club and reached the semi-finals in Listen Up Music’s Songwriting Prize, the Australian Songwriters Association’s songwriting awards and the International Songwriting Competition. In 2026, both singles (and other songs) are to be heard in the newly released feature film ‘All My Friends Are Back in Brisbane’ the sequel to the cult classic ‘All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane’ released in 2007. The duo’s songs provide a welcome audible backdrop to key moments in the new film. ‘Let's Make Plans’, produced by Samuel Ayling (a.k.a. This New Light) in his charming sunshine coast studio drops the listener into a feeling of warm fuzzies with hopeful acoustic guitars, earthy violin & banjo and the meditative harmonies inkind are beginning to be known for. It evokes a feeling of inspired action with apologetic lyrics in the chorus such as ‘lets make plans, let’s do all the things we said’ and ‘sorry I forgot to call… my schedule’s like a waterfall’. The memorable melodies of the track remain long after listening, planting the reminder that it’s never too late to catch up with a friend. inkind will be encouraging new found fans to ‘make plans’ to connect in person at their live single launch 21st June at Brisbane’s cosy Junk Bar supported by singer-songwritier Maddison Kate. About Maddison; Brisbane-based Maddison Kate has an enchanting voice, singing the songs of old souls. She writes delicately braided lyrics that explore truths of the human experience and aims to build connection with others through her introspective Follow inkind below: https://www.instagram.com/inkindfolk https://www.facebook.com/inkindfolk Contact: inkindfolk@gmail.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@inkindfolk https://inkindfolk.bandcamp.com/track/feels-like-home

Philosophy Roundtable: Art

A painting that brings a person to tears. A banana worth 6.4 million dollars. A photograph ending a war. What is behind these phenomena? Please join us this Sunday to discuss the Philosophy of Art, where it comes from, what makes it powerful and why it is a universal across time and cultures. We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp. **Please note the new $5 mandatory donation entry fee** (cash or transfer on day) to help with MeetUp subscription costs, venue costs, etc. There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged. This event is also posted to the Socrates Cafe group. We will explore the topic through a range of questions, including: **What is Art?** * What comes to mind when we use the word ‘Art’? What are the categories of objects or activities that you would consider to be art? * Which of these are art?: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1_1nl2_GKbGzzSbXsRRsnAZlkmNVqWPjm **Emotion** * Is art a luxury or necessity in life? Is it essential to happiness? * Why is art so effective at making us feel powerful emotions, even when we know it doesn’t represent reality? Are these ‘true’ emotions, or somehow different / simulated? * Why do we sometimes seek our art that makes us feel sad? **Objectivity** * Is there such a thing as objectively bad art? * Are there intrinsic properties that make something aesthetic (beautiful)? Are they universal? * Are there objective standards of ‘taste’? Can one person be said to have better taste than another? If so, on what basis or criteria? **Value** * What gives art its value? Why do we consider replicas differently? Is naturally occurring beauty different to art? * What compels humans towards art? Is there an evolutionary / biological explanation for the seemingly wasteful expenditure of resources on outputs that have no practical function? **Creativity** * Are only humans able to appreciate art? * Are only humans creative? * Is there such a thing as something truly new, or is every idea or expression a recombination of existing inputs into a different configuration of outputs? * Can a machine be creative? If not, what is the constraint? * Could we ever regard AI-creativity in the same way as that of a human? Hope to see you there!

Sign up properly\, don't come if only waitlisted\, and arrive on time or not long after or you will have to wait before playing\. \- This group is for beginner and intermediate levels only and we play respectfully\. **If you're advanced, this is *not* the group for you**. Go find some other group to play with. \- Only come if well\. Bring plenty of fluids\, sunscreen\, sunglasses\, hat etc as appropriate\. \- Spread out amongst the 2 games\. No other groups or chats should be relied on\. ***\- If you have a soccer ball and/or pump\, bring them along*** to ensure that we start relatively soon after the advertised start time. MARTY ROBBINS' GUNFIGHTER BALLADS & TRAIL SONGS Performed by Henry Wagons, Emily Lubitz and The Counterfeit *SOLD OUT*

Following two rapid sell outs at Brunswick Ballroom and Memo Music Hall, a third and final performance of Marty Robbins’ Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs has been added at Theatre Royal, Castlemaine on Sunday, June 21. Demand for the show has been immediate, with both Melbourne dates selling out within four weeks- cementing this as one of the most sought after live music events of the season. A cornerstone of American songwriting, this infamous Marty Robbins album is widely regarded as one of the great early concept records. A vivid cycle of outlaws, lawmen and frontier justice. From the drama of El Paso to the steely tension of Big Iron, it unfolds like a Western film set to music. Leading the posse is Henry Wagons, whose commanding, narrative- driven vocals bring authority and grit to these frontier tales. Emily Lubitz provides contrast and nuance, her unmistakable voice adding warmth and intimacy to the stark landscapes. Backed by members of notorious spaghetti-western ensemble The Counterfeit—renowned for their grand, cinematic interpretations of music from the western frontier—the album will be presented in full, from start to finish. This is not a greatest-hits revue, but a rare and immersive re-staging of a landmark album—and a unique opportunity for Castlemaine audiences to step inside one of the most enduring works in Western music history.

School of life - Sydney fan meetup, difficult questions deck

This event is in person! To find the room, walk into the car parking area from the street at 14 Frances St, walk to the end of the car park (to the left of the building) and enter in the side pedestrian gate. Walk straight down the pathway to the back building and up the stairs. Look for the signs to Skyview Hall! As part of the school of life Sydney meetup we host a discussion focused on the difficult questions deck. We flip a difficult question and then ask the group to answer. Some examples include, "what makes a good listener?" and "if you could own any piece of art, what would it be?", "who was a childhood role model other than your parents?" Join us for questions like these and more. We hope to have you join us in this journey of self discovery. If you’re reading this, you’re invited. Please don’t feel like you “won’t be welcome” just because you’re new, demographically different from the average member, or hate the School of Life and everything it stands for. You’ll be fine! We usually meet every 3rd Sunday of the month at 4pm. 0438481143 to contact us if you get lost. This event is free for first time participants, then $10 if you are coming back for more! Soulful Mantra Meditation Evening

**We invite you to The Mantra Room, a friendly community sharing spiritual practice of Mantra Meditation, Kirtan & Wisdom & Vegan Meal.** **\~\~** “Mantra” means transcendental sound vibration, sound which transcends the material world. It does not originate in the material world; it originates in the Spiritual World and descends to the material platform without losing any spiritual potency. By the simple process of mantra meditation, our mind and heart are gradually purified of all kinds of stress, worry, misconceptions and deep-seated fears etc. We begin to experience an ever-deepening inner peace and happiness and increasing insights into life. The easiest way of meditating on the mantras is by singing in a group accompanied with musical instruments , which is also known as Kirtan. Rather than being a type of performance, Kirtan is a journey of self discovery. It nourishes our deepest needs for inner peace, happiness, freedom from fear & spiritual love. Be a part of an immersive and interactive mantra meditation experience and join many other like minded people that come to Brisbane’s home of Kirtan [The Mantra Room](https://www.facebook.com/TheMantraRoom.Brisbane)! Everyone is welcome, whether you regularly engage in meditation or never before we encourage you to come along for a special night of chanting. Includes Community Veg/Vegan meal. Volunteering and Donations in supporting these events are greatly appreciated. Namaste! The Mantra Room Volunteers♥

Big Squid

Big Squid

It may come as a surprise to some, but it’s no surpise to others: the boys in Big Squid have dreams of breaking into the K-pop market. Yes, it’s incredible but true. But while they work on their ambitious but not inconceivable plan to storm this brave new world, they continue to amaze audiences every year with their impressive musical skills, playing a vast range of the not-quite-greatest songs from the 70s, 80s and even 90s. If you’re a Big Squid virgin, don’t be afraid. Be entertained. Formed when music was mostly made up of 3 chords and artifical intelligence was defined as an answering machine attached to your landline, Big Squid have been “burning down the house” since the late 80s. Did they have big hair back then? Certainly! Do they still have big hair? Not quite. Occasionally described as rock and roll geniuses by music promoters and punters alike, these masters of musical mayhem pride themselves in turning your clock back to the days when you were young and kid free, and breathalyzers were a rarity easily avoided by using the back streets to get home. If band names like Paper Lace, ABBA, Racey, Peter Allen, Wild Cherry , T-Rex, Glen Campbell and Skyhooks don’t get your enjoyment juices flowing, don’t worry - there are plenty more Pop classics these consumate artists will be performing to get your feet moving and your stomach turning. Don’t be surprised to find yourself fainting to the floor due to your excessive excitement. So listen up, mollusk lovers! Big Squid has survived the supposedly non-toxic algal bloom and are back at The Gov for yet another Sunday afternoon show on June 21st 2026. Here’s your opportunity (is it your last? Did they say this last time?) to come along and relive your glory days, whilst finding out: does Andrew still have all is own teeth, is Rob still the greatest keyboard player Adelaide has ever heard if not seen, is Warwick the tallest bass player known to mankind, will Jeff drum the whole show whilst wearing a President Regan mask, is Dave still using the amplifier and guitar pedals he bought in 1981, and will Mark wear normal clothes? At $29.99 a ticket for about 3 hours of entertainment, it’s cheaper than a 1/4 tank of petrol!

Welcome to Melbourne Volleyball Academy! 🤗 **[[WHAT]]** This session will be broken into 2 halves, 1st half is training and the 2nd half is games. Please arrive on time as we will start exactly at 5:30 PM. Our intention is to have this training be the 'next step' after our beginner-level training at North Melbourne Community Centre. Please enter via the main entrance (the entrance with the larger parking lot), we will be on Court 3 & 4, please ask the person at the front desk if you need directions. **[[WHO]]** The training is intended for social volleyball players at the intermediate level or 'B' level (for more details on volleyball levels, please visit our site here: https://melbournevolleyballacademy.com.au/skill-levels-explained). Players are expected to: * pass freeballs and serve receive consistently * have some knowledge of 5-1 (1 setter all around) or 6-2 (back row setter only) systems * help others and have good sportsmanship If you are a high intermediate (BB) or advanced player (A) you are more than welcome to join but you may find our open play sessions for BB/A level players more suitable. For players that are at the beginner level, we suggest attending our training on Fridays at North Melbourne Community Centre 6-9PM as beginners may find the drills and level of play too difficult.
