Fox Hill Grade 3 Moderate Hike 5.6km

After taking a good 6 months hiatus during the offseason, I need to ease back in let's rehash a favourite. One of Adelaide's gems nestled right by the city in the suburb of Rostrevor (Hint it's not Morialta this time but almost as good and much more niche). Fox Hill, often overlooked in my observation as it is a modest conservation area but well worth the effort in my opinion. Meet at the ample car park on your left as you approach on Montacute rd. We will then continue on Chapmans Track, Moores Track before returning via Fox Hill Track. Don't be deceived the first 1km is steep but safe as we will be traversing this upwards for the first 30 min and then all downhill thereon. Really a combination of a Grade 4 hard hike at the beginning and easy Grade 2 fire trails thereafter. Total distance is a mere 5.6kms for those waiting in the ranks that are less keen on endurance this one's for you. There will be at least one notable landmark as we navigate this circuit as reward for effort put in at the start (almost 300m elevation gain). Let's enjoy a brisk hike and enjoy the best of nature after good rains. Hiking poles or an umbrella are not mandatory but recommended for the steep ascent at the start. **What to Bring:** * Sturdy footwear 🥾 * Sunsmart gear 😎 * Water 1 litre 🎒 * Hiking Pole 🌂 **SAFETY NOTICE:** As we embark on this journey, remember that each participant and their guests are responsible for their safety and well-being throughout the event. Unforeseen incidents or accidents are beyond my control, so please exercise caution. If you bring guests to an event, it's crucial to inform them that this is a hiking event. They need to wear appropriate shoes and clothes for hiking. Please ensure your guests are well-prepared. **By RSVPing to this event, you confirm that both you and your guests take full responsibility for your own safety.** You agree not to hold the Organiser or Adelaide Adventure Seekers liable for any accidents, losses, or misadventures during the event. If the above resonates with you please confirm your spot by hitting the RSVP button below.

Minyon & Condong Falls Loop 🌴

Hey everybody, Let's hike Minyon Falls down to the base! We will start out the trail at the top of the falls, taking a small detour to the the hidden Condong Falls. From here we will wind down through the tranquil sub tropical rainforest to the base and take in the beauty of Minyon Falls. After a long lunch break at the base, we will wind back up the loop towards the Minyon Grass area, where we will finish our hike. Total hike distance is approximately 10km. **IMPORTANT INFO** * Event restricted to 20 people. * One plus 1 per person welcome, please indicate on RSVP. * If you RSVP then can't attend, please give a minimum of 48 hours notice so others don't miss out: Please read our full RSVP and cancellation policy below. * Please bring lunch, snacks and enough water as there will not be any chance to buy any once we leave. * This is classified as a "Grade 3-4" walk: Above average difficulty, with a scramble to the falls required at the bottom of the hike. * Please be sure to wear closed toe shoes. * Option to swim at base of falls. * Donations are appreciated to help cover the cost of Meetup fees. Please Help our group grow! Please join us here on facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/200630941048701 **RSVP and cancellation policy** As our MeetUps are generally published on the Thursday evening before the Sunday's event, there are less than 3 days between publication and the event. Therefore, by RSVPing it is expected that you are certain you can attend and do not cancel your place. If you have any doubt about attending the event, please leave the space for others who are sure they can come. If you need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, please send a private message with a legitimate reason as to why you can't make it to the event organiser (please note that the weather will not be accepted as a legitimate excuse, as the forecast 3 days prior to the event is close enough to get a good idea of what to expect). Failure to send said private message will result in a first warning and then if it happens a second time, it will result in your removal from the group. The reasoning for this is that our MeetUp group has over 1000 members and with hikes only taking 15-20 people, places are at a premium. Therefore, when there are late withdrawals, members on the waitlist miss out on attending at the expense of others, so a private message is to make attendees accountable for their RSVPs and therefore being considerate of others wishing to join. Thank you for your understanding. **Disclaimer** Healthy Hangouts is not a formal organisation and therefore does not have liability insurance. Healthy Hangouts will not be held responsible in any way for any mishaps, injuries or adverse health occurrences that may happen during any events - Organisers, guides and associates of Healthy Hangouts will not be held liable either. Stoicism - Courage | Temperance | Wisdom | Justice

This meeting is a space for those who are curious about Stoic philosophy and want to study, analyze, and apply its teachings to daily life. We engage with Stoic texts, discuss their relevance in the modern world, and explore how to embody Stoic virtues such as wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. We encourage critical thinking within the framework of Stoicism, where we ask questions to explore, refine, and deepen our understanding of Stoic principles. Format: Every week, we analyse three Stoic quotes, give our perspectives, and discuss them as a group. A core principle of the group is that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate and contribute to discussions (however, attendees are welcome to listen and speak only if they feel comfortable). Facilitators actively encourage balanced participation and foster an atmosphere of active listening and respect. 1. **The Dichotomy Of Control** \- Things that are within my control: my thoughts and actions\. Things that are outside of my control: everything else\. Having a clear set of goals sets me on a journey; from which I am detached from all outcomes 2. **Live According To Nature** \- It is in my nature to behave virtuously\. The fundamentals of which are: a) *Courage* \- face my fears b) *Temperance* \- restrain from excess c) *Wisdom* \- respond rationally d) *Justice* \- act responsibly 3. **The Obstacle Is The Way** \- The obstacles in my life are blessings in that overcoming them strengthens my mind\. 4. **Sympatheia** \- Be an objective thinker by understanding that we have a mutual interdependence on the whole of humanity\. 5. **Memento Mori** \- Meditate on my mortality and live in the present\. 6. **Premeditatio Malorum** \- The only certainty in life is that nothing is certain\. I should prepare myself mentally for any disruptions that may occur\. Rehearse these in my mind: exile\, torture\, war\, shipwreck\. 7. **Amor Fati** \- First\, to accept fate\, then to love it\. 8. **Reflect (journal)** \- Reflect on the day by exploring why I felt and acted the way I did "The reason why we have two ears and only one mouth is so we might listen more and talk less." - Zeno of Citium Let's create a community of people who inspire, motivate, and support each other to become more responsible and rational adults.

POSTPONED Cape Surville Lookout

POSTPONED. Peter and I will investigate the roads this weekend and advise the situation for another time. This walk is the Cape Surville Track out and back starting somewhere along Richardsons Road. This is vague because if you are lucky, you can drive the full length of that 4WD track in a normal car, but rain and track degradation means that we don't know how far we can get. There is some discrepancy in the blogs and posts about how long the hike is, and I suspect this is because of all the different starting points along the track. See the posts below from All Trails that range from 4.3 for just the Cape or 24.3 if you walk the entire length of Richardsons Road each way. We will probably cover up to 10-15km and it could take 4-5 hours if we take it easy. But if Richardsons Road is in bad condition we may have to park earlier. **Meeting Time:** 9:45am - be early so that we know exactly who is coming. you may not have phone reception and will not be able to call. **Meeting Place:** We will meet at the end of Hylands Road, and then together venture as far along Richardsons Road as we can. We will walk to the end of Richardson Road, cross Chasm Creek and start the track. **Getting There**. It takes about 1h 20min to drive to the start so you will need to leave town early to arrive in time. "Head towards Murdunna on the Forestier Peninsula, just south of Dunalley. In Murdunna, turn left off the A9 into Hylands Road. This road is a forestry road, and all tracks are gravel." A welcoming day out where the focus is all about fun, friendships and fresh air. Whether you come solo or bring a mate, you’ll leave with new connections and memories! \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **🚙 Carpooling Makes It Happen** At Social Hikes Australia, carpooling is a big part of what makes our hikes possible. Every extra seat means another person gets to join. Fewer cars, easier logistics, and a more social, fun start to the day. Carpooling is also a great way to meet people before the hike even begins, share a few laughs, get to know each other, and arrive together. It’s simple, social, and one of the best parts of the experience 🌿 💡 Carpool tickets are offered at a discounted price to encourage drivers to offer seats and make the hikes accessible for everyone. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- 👉 **For Drivers** If you’ve got spare seats, offering a lift makes a big difference. It helps others join, reduces parking stress and makes the ride more enjoyable from the start. 👉 **For Passengers** Passengers are to contact drivers directly using the details provided in the carpool sheet (linked at the top of the description). The sheet shows information from carpooler tickets (Drivers Offering Seats). ✨ **Best practice:** Try to organise your ride before purchasing a ticket to avoid last-minute stress. **Please note:** Drivers and passengers should stick to the arrangements they make. We do not recommend swapping drivers or cars after you’ve agreed on a ride. If you do decide to change, please make sure all parties are clearly informed and agree to avoid confusion. If a driver forgets, gets mixed up, or doesn’t pick you up, Social Hikes Australia (and your driver) are **not liable** for any inconvenience caused. For this reason, it is best to keep things simple with the driver you first arranged with. ⚠️ **Important Notes** * Please stick with the carpool arrangement you agree on. * Avoid swapping drivers unless everyone is clearly informed and agrees. * Petrol, parking, and other costs are not included in the ticket price. These should be agreed upon directly between the driver and passengers. * Social Hikes Australia is not responsible for any issues with private carpool arrangements. 📍 **Pick-Up Info** Drivers will share their preferred pick-up locations, such as major CBD train stations like Parliament, Richmond, South Yarra, Southern Cross, or North Melbourne. For this hike, **the nearest station to the trail is** [Waurn Ponds](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dn7e4WuXs5bSUSCA6 "https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dn7e4WuXs5bSUSCA6"), though drivers choose whichever spot is most convenient for them. Passengers can then join from those locations. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- **🤩 Why Join?** 🌟 Make new friends in a relaxed, casual way. 🌟Enjoy nature and fresh air while meeting like-minded people your age 🌟Friendly vibes full of laughs, chats and good times guaranteed 🌟You never know. Between Worlds; Exploring Shamanic Consciousness in Contemporary Australia

When people think of shamanic journeying, psychedelics are often the first association. Yet in most traditions, altered states of consciousness are more commonly entered through other methods. These practices shift awareness away from linear and rational thinking into symbolic and imaginal ways of experiencing the world. A central focus of this talk is the role of mythology and symbolism as a map and compass for navigating these inner states. Mythology is not treated as abstract story or merely superstition, but as a living framework that helps organise experience, guide inner journeys, and support processes of healing and transformation. Archetypes, symbols, and mythic narratives form a structured language for making sense of what is encountered in altered states, both for individuals and communities. The talk also explores how these traditional mythological maps overlap with modern psychology. Contemporary approaches to the mind increasingly recognise symbolic processes, layered identity, trauma patterns, and the need for integration - areas long addressed within myth-based systems of understanding. We will look at how altered states are safely accessed and navigated, and how myth and symbolism provides orientation within them. Finally, the talk considers the relevance of these approaches in the modern world, particularly in contemporary Australia - offering ways of engaging meaning, psychological insight, and connection to self, others, and place through direct experience. **Guy** is a traditionally trained and initiated sangoma. A sangoma is a traditional healer of Southern Africa, effectively a shaman of the Zulu and related Nguni cultures. Born and raised in South Africa, he is one of only a handful of westerners that have undergone the long and intense ordeal of thwasa (the formal traditional training and initiation process) in order to become initiated into the traditions of the Southern African traditional healers. Guy is also a Ceremonial Leader and initiated shaman in the Spirit of the Earth Medicine Society (SOTEMS), a non-profit Australian organisation which is dedicated to developing new forms of Australian Spirituality and healing based on traditional healing (shamanic) methods for contemporary Australians. **The MTS is committed to providing events that align with and further The three objects of The Theosophical Society:** * To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour. * To encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science. * To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in the human being.
